I'm one of those old grumpy SWG vets that left after the Combat Upgrade. It was the first & only MMO I ever quit, perhaps not becuse I was angry (and indeed I was), but they took a game with a fairly sandboxy style (Crafting, omg the crafting & player driver market...) and just made it... worse. They tried and make it into more like WoW becuse they lost subscribers to that game, but in the end, the just made most of their core players and fans leave.

EVE online is another game I quit... a few times... but it always brings me back, even though I know I will burn out, and I know it becomes my 2nd unpaid job.

In the end, it has never been about the money, and it never will be. It will be about what you do in the endgame and they time leading up to that.

About free-to-play games, that most often has micro transactions, there is never something that is free. Most times "free" is really expensive.
