Hi-Rez Studios offering exclusive Tribes and SMITE demos at PAX East

Apr 4th 2012 2:29PM (Massively)
@drunkingamebar

The only thing holding Tribes back is the damage assault rifles do, and the fact it doesn't have dedicated servers. If it had dedis, I could see this game being amazing, especially if they made it easy to mod without requiring any downloads (like Tribes did). Otherwise, the game is insanely fun... and it's weapons are insanely, butt draggingly overpriced.

EMI sues Def Jam Rapstar creators

@DJ Kenneth A

I think the biggest insult is they think each song is somehow worth $150,000 a piece, when even on a disk stacked with 20 of these tracks, it isn't worth the initial $15.

WAR40K devs laid off, game will no longer be an MMO

@real65rcncom

Could it really even BE an MMO? I mean, we've already kind of proved that Warhammer doesn't translate well into a game. Combine it with the fact that every story is grimdark and more excuse for thousands and thousands of years of endless WAAAAAAAAAAAAR and you get bored really quick by the premise.

I will admit though, I loved the Relic games, though I wish they had a Capture and Hold style game mode for the Retribution Survival games. RTS was never my bag, but the heroes aspect of the game was stupid fun.

DC Universe Online makes Legendary members even more legendary

@Furdinand

I'm glad I stopped playing this game, honestly. I got sick of waiting a day to go back in and do PvE, so much I started doing PvP. I wanted to do PvE and just grind, but no, they had an artificial lock-out in the game to try and extend their game. Pfft. Nice try folks, but, let me think about iiiiiiiiiiit... no. I really did love the game too, but because of these stupid lock-out systems, they never got a penny out of me (I was going to buy literally all of the DLC).

Ah well, whatever. Honestly, I'm starting to get sick of MMOs. It's either an ungodly grind, an ungodly lock-out to forcefully extend their shallow game, or both. This is coming from a guy who used to play PSO solo on his gamecube every single fracking day. Never had an artificial extender in it, yet I still loved it and played it to death. Then again, that would mean creating an enjoyable game, not trying to strangle money out of people.

You'll also note this is close to the system that Age of Conan and Everquest 2 use. Yeah... I'm not buying it. Glad I didn't waste more than a week on this game.

Series EV is latest Dungeon Defender on Steam, activates March 29

All I'm seeing is femme Mega Man with cable dreadlocks.

... I like what I see, and I might actually have to buy this. Being able to install Staves and Guns on this character could make them a pretty wicked replacement for DPS Apprentices/Hunters, kind of like how the Barbarian replaced DPS Countesses...

Not So Massively: MOBAs, shooters, and dungeon crawlers

Just a warning to everyone, I beta tested Wrath of Heroes about a month or two into it's closed beta. It was fun, and it's come a long way. However, it IS pay to win, and the price of champions is extreme. I've been giving constant feedback between beta phases, and they only gave me 30k in gold... well, it takes about 20k to 40k to buy a hero. On average, you get about 30 gold (not 30k, 30) per match. To get access to upgradable abilities and the like, you have to purchase heroes, otherwise you're playing gimp versions.

I'm making this as a warning to all players to STAY AWAY from the pay to win Warhammer. It's effing terrible what they're doing to it, but I already stopped playing. In the closed beta, prices were 200 to 300 for a hero. I wouldn't have minded a 10x increase. But a 100x increase? It's frelling Battlefield Heroes all over again. DO NOT TRUST EA.

The Daily Grind: Are MMO players tired of beefcake?

Mar 26th 2012 12:43PM (Massively)
@(Unverified)

Actually, WoW's Blood Elf men were actually skinnier, but the creators thought they weren't beefcakey enough, so they expanded their chests so much it actually broke the model. http://www.blogcdn.com/wow.joystiq.com/media/2006/10/oldnew03.jpg

It's pretty disgusting how they typecast everyone. I don't mind having not having a scrawny human and all, but when I roll a mage, I expect a respectably proportioned human being, not some steroid popping neanderthal. I could, sadly, never get into my mage because of this. Both Guild Wars, and most recently Aion, were my saving grace to these problems.

The Daily Grind: Do you prefer open or closed chat?

I've never understood the ideal in separating communities like that. It takes you twice as long to find a party, twice as long to get things done, and it makes it so you have to create double the exact same content and tweak the story as well. That's the thing that's made me kinda wonder about Aion. There's very little difference beyond skin color and fur between the Elyos and Asmodians, yet they both just plain hate each other's guts. I've had to create 2 accounts just to get the complete package of the game.

Don't even get me started on Aika's "5 Kingdom" system either... That game made my brain explode, and made me quit very early...

Rise and Shiny: Realm of the Mad God

@foofad

The "death forever" mechanic is what turned me off. Sure, you can hit Level 20 in about an hour if you really, really try at it, and it's pretty easy to do so (at least with a wizard). I love unlocking classes too, so it should have been a match made in heaven. However, I just couldn't get past the fact I felt like all my hard work was for nothing. Frankly, it's a stupidly fun game with great partying mechanics... but that's about it, for me. I just can't stay hooked to it for those reasons.

SWTOR devs attempt to balance the Force through nerfs

Mar 24th 2012 7:30PM (Massively)
@Eamil

I was under the assumption The Force was just another name for "Psionic Power" or "An Invisible Force", thus it's name. I guess that means Tetsuo was a Sith Lord, and Ness is a Jedi Knight.
