Rift's closed beta to start December 3rd

Nov 18th 2010 7:38PM (Massively)
What?

This is not a Korean import. You are thinking of Tera Online. This is a game made by former devs from WoW, WAR, LotRO, EQ, EQ2 and Vanguard.

Also, it is not just limited focus testing. There is a rather large "alpha" going on currently that is like a normal MMO's beta.

Rift's devs challenge fans to name an orphaned soul

I went with Wildermancer. I love the fact that Trion is doing this, not heard of another MMO dev doing something similar before, especially a big company as opposed to an indie.

Can not wait for this game. The Soul System is pretty revolutionary in the industry and the rest of the game look phenomenal too! If anyone is interested in PAX information or other news from Rift:

The Daily Grind: What was your favorite PAX revelation?

Sep 9th 2010 4:52PM (Massively)
Rift by a looooong shot for me. No, they don't try to reinvent the wheel but the class system looks fantastic, the Rift invasions look awesome and they have a high level of polish and look to have a ton of content.

SW:ToR still looks too instanced for me and fairly boring. I also have no trust in a MMO with EA anywhere on it.

Tera has a cool combat system but I hate eastern MMOs and with Brian Knox making the same exact promises he made with Aion, I am not expecting much. I expect more of a grind and I hate the eastern artstyle.

GW2 would be my second choice but I have a few doubts they can pull it off. Hopefully they prove me wrong.

Regardless, Rift looks to be the best MMO coming out of Pax and I will be playing it for sure.

Getting down to earth with Stonefield in Rift: Planes of Telara

Sep 1st 2010 6:51PM (Massively)
Thanks for the comments on my blog. I put Rift #1 on my upcoming MMO list. GW2 is pretty hight but I did not like GW1, so I have my reservations.

SW:ToR is one that I think is going to be a disappointment. I think the storytelling emphasis, while nice for a single player game, is going to make for too many instances. Plus, I have no confidence in EA when it comes to MMOs.

Rift is at the top for me. Can not wait to get into it.

Can not wait for this game. With the announcement of the new classes, saboteur and beastmaster and the information about Port Scion being a PvP zone, it is looking better an better.

AoC's Godslayer going retail with exclusive items

@devilsei:

Most games DO release the entire game. EQ2, LotRO, EQ....they all do it that way. WoW is the exception. Ridiculous but they make money that way, though I do not think its fair to the consumer.

Age of Conan pushing Shrines of Bori towards quick release

Just gave this a try last week. I missed the release as I was in the midst of a Warhammer fervor. I am glad I missed it.

But, I am even more glad that I picked it up now. It has been a really amazing game, thus far. Just hit level 23 and I am into Cimmeria and killing Vanir. The graphics are amazing, the quests are fun and the combat is a refreshing change from the norm.

I look forward to getting to the level cap and the release of RotGS. My one complaint in game is the smallish size of the maps and the instancing, something they are supposedly alleviating in the expansion.

Even with that slight problem, I am loving it so far. Can not wait to see higher levels and get into some raids and such!
