Guild Wars 2 video features developers and new gameplay footage

Aug 11th 2010 9:23AM (Massively)
You must have missed the article that mentions them using high level characters to beat extremely low level enemies to show off the characters skills in the video.

All the videos they have released so far was to show new professions and some skills, there's no videos out yet to show off the AI, you're just assuming things way too quickly...

AI is always an ongoing task in game development, and it will only ever be completed near the end of the project cycle. In the case of MMO's they will keep at it and update the game with better AI over time.

When ArenaNet releases, look at what they are trying to show off and not all the other minor details that might e unfinished. No game company will release a perfect video of their game while they are still developing it.

Flameseeker Chronicles: The end of the War in Kryta

Jul 13th 2010 2:23PM (Massively)
All the War in Kryta content is character specific. So you can do the quests once per character. If you haven't done the content, it's still going to be there for when you feel like doing it.

The Wanted Bounties stay even after you finish beating all the quests, it's just the extra spawns in the explorable areas that go away for the most part.

NCsoft announces Comic-Con schedule for Aion, City of Heroes, and Guild Wars 2

Jul 13th 2010 2:13PM (Massively)
I have to disagree. I think they have an awesome marketing strategy thus far. ArenaNet has already mentioned which conventions they wanted to show the demo at, which I imagine comes with much careful planning.

If they aren't showing any demos at Comic-Con, it means the Demo is either not ready for it or they didn't plan on coming to the event and are only going because their Publisher asked them to go.

Flameseeker Chronicles: The great nerfbat of '10 (or why ArenaNet didn't fail)

@photics: Wow, just wow. Here I'll point out quite a few flaws with your accusations, oh I mean comments...

"I don't like this article. Is this a MMORPG news site? This article feels more like it belongs on a fansite. It's too one-sided. If players are complaining about quitting, what is their side of the story?"

Are you sure you just don't like the writer of this article? Jealousy maybe? If people are winning and complaining about the skill update, then it's pretty easy to guess what their side of the story is, unless you don't play GW. This article is about an MMO, so it fits nicely on this site I might add, or did GW suddenly become and RTS over the past week so Massively should stop posting any articles about it?

"It's GUILD WARS... yet PvE can basically be played as a single-player game. Why don't they nerf heroes and encourage players to play together? Where's the urgency to fix that problem? This site is called Massively... and the game is called Guild Wars. Instead of focusing on players that are complaining, maybe find out why they're complaining."

Like I said above, this is an article about a skill update, that's what players are going to be complaining about, are you sure you actually read the article? GW is a game about choices, whether you want to play with other or by yourself is up to you, the player. Heroes were one of the best things that happened. Besides, if players want to experience the game in full, they will have to group with others at some point, but it will be when they choose to do so.

"Orry mentioned an interesting point on my forum. This nerf might actually encourage grouping."

Not unless people want to group together in the first place. It's all about choice.

"...and I could be considered one of the players that complains the loudest. Hey Rubi... it's a good thing that players complain. It shows that they care about the game. When I stop complaining, it means I've moved on. Do you know for sure that people haven't quit over this nerf? More importantly... how many copies of Guild Wars will be sold as a result of this nerf?"

Complaints can be written in a positive manner, but they should be about the changes and how they think they could've been better. Other complaints about how the game is ruined and QQ about not being able to solo dungeons in 10 minutes anymore are idiotic. This type of complaining only promotes conflict and these people need to accept the changes that have been made and try to make something good out of it. Oh, and most of the changes were buffs to skills, with only minor nerf to a few skills. Also, since when are skill updates about selling copies of the game? They aren't, plain and simple.

"It's this exact elitism that is what's wrong with this article... and quite frankly... wrong with the game. You get your cookie-cutter builds and you're expected to play a certain way... go along with the crowd... and if you don't, you're somehow not fit to play Guild Wars."

That's not elitism, that's a fact. Also GW is a game about choices, like I said before. You can play however you want, with any build you want. Granted, some builds will work better than others, but by no means do you HAVE to run a certain build to beat content.

This is elitism:
"Heh... I lead a 1000 player alliance... been running a fansite for six years... and I've read much about the new lore... I even created a fansite game with elements of it...
http://photics.com/conquest"

And

"Issue #21 has record of the first major nerf after the release of Guild Wars.
http://guildwars.us/content/48-Photics-Guild-Wars-Edition-Issue-21"

And

"Orry mentioned an interesting point on my forum."

You promote yourself and your site because you think you are better then some of the writers here on Massively and you are deriving articles to your own sites. To me this looks like a pathetic attempt to gain more attention to your unpopular site.

I'm going to stop right there, because I don't want to keep on going pointing out all the flaws in your comments. There's too many of them, and frankly, it ridiculous.

You want to know why people complain and whine about any changes to a game? Because it changes their routine, and they are too lazy to try other alternatives. Also it doesn't help that most people don't know how the game industry works and why some decisions are made.

Guild Wars releases long-awaited skill update

Feb 27th 2010 7:08PM (Massively)
@Duumac: The customers are other players that want to get a run through a dungeon. Most people do this because they usully don't have to do much and they are only after the end chest, or it's for their title.

That screenshot basically depicts irony, you would know this if you ever played GW and have been to Eye of the North :)

Flameseeker Chronicles: It's all Kun Shao's fault

Assuming that people will assume what you wrote was a joke or sarcasm without a hint of it is also a great idea :)

To me, anyways, I didn't read anything that stood out as a joke or sarcasm.

I'm sorry but the XTH was up before GW2 was even announced. I also wouldn't say it failed miserably, it was great while it lasted, but in the end, there was just too many issues with the feature.

If developers listened to you, most games out there wouldn't be getting any updates because of your idiotic 'never try' statement. That's not how the game industry works. They SHOULD be trying new and exiting things, and even if those ideas fall through, it means that they have learned from this lesson, and from now on, they can improve upon it.

If nobody ever tried new things, we'd be playing the same games forever...

Potential smoking gun found for Guild Wars security issues

Jan 2nd 2010 12:04PM (Massively)
Even though NCsoft may have it's issues, it's wouldn't be the sole reason of why people are getting hacked. I think people are just trying to point a finger at something quickly so that they can blame someone.

People forget that you do NOT need an NCsoft account, unless you plan or making purchases from their site. I have a good friend who got hacked that never used any online forums and never made an NCsoft account. Although his password could have been stronger, anything that has been mentioned so far doesn't make sense in this case.

Account hackings have been around for a while. These situations should be evaluated on a per account basis to help find a root cause of the issue. Although this would take time, but at the same time it'll help in the long run by providing more security to different ways that accounts are being hacked right now.

I think there is more than one issue here and that people are jumping to conclusions a bit too fast. Only time will tell.
