Nah it was a spike from a voting spam. I tried to mimick the technique myself and was able to successfully vote for Neo steam in many categories over and over by clearing my hystory and cookies completely. Wasn't hard and I picked Neo Steam intentionally because it had little to no votes and was not increasing. So it was a good test.
Anyways I voted for Neo steam several times while refreshing the page on my wifes comp to check the tallies. My Neo steam vote did in fact get counted each and every time in each and every category.
Yes it was a out of no where spike in the RoM votes. I know because the day before it wasn't even a contender one day and the very next day it's on par with Aion and even surpassing it in some categories.
As far as why it's a WoW clone, it just is. WoW was the basis for the game. This is seen throught the game design. Art direction, animations, quests, Char models, everything. Not a big deal it's a free to play WoW clone, not much can be said about it. Alganons is much worse. Those are the only two MMO's that have come out that I would honestly call WoW clones though, Alganon and RoM. But both were designed to be. RoM is a free to play copy though so no big deal that they are a copy.
Nah isn't the case at all. If you read what I posted earlier you can sit there and clear your history and repeatedly vote and it does count the votes. I intentionally voted for Neo Steam over and over because there was no interest and it had very little votes. I refreshed the page on my wifes comp and each vote on my comp.
Results were... Neo Steams votes increased by 1 for each vote I cast for it lol.
All that has happened is that Multiple people have cleared there history and repeatedly voted for RoM over and over, likely had a macro to do so as I can make one easy.
But meh, lol better sites have given awards out to better games. I guess RoM could use a gold star about now so it doesn't really bother me that much lol.
I cleared my history and cookies and voted for Neo Steam a few times in every category to test this. I was able to vote several times for Neo Steam and yes it did count each vote. I did this all while refreshing the page on my wifes comp so that I could see for sure if the votes did increase each time I voted. I picked Neo Steam specifically for it's lack of votes and interest.
The results were yes I was able to vote mutliple times for Neo Steam in every category and yes it did register each and everyone of those votes. I decided to vote for the ones I orginally voted for several times to balance that out.
So ... yes you can vote multiple times for the same thing in the same category. I just did, repeatedly.
lol, what the heck?! When did Runes of Magic suddenly fly by every other game on the list. I remember the beta, it's a bad rip off of WoW lol. Will be sad to see a free to play win out over better games. And no I don't mean better by opinion, I mean actually better. I don't like Fallen Earth but it by far has the best crafting. Aion has the best visuals without a doubt. Best PvP again is Aion. Champions Online deserve's Best Capacity for Roleplay. DnD hands down for best free to play.
Ah well lol, least the Major sites are giving out the awards to those that actually deserve them. Enjoy the vote spam RoM fans.
The problem here is reality. In reality most people moved on from CO silently. Many were vocal in there departure but the vocal ones are in the minority. CO has one of the worste retention rates of any MMO launched that I can remember. I would not put current active subs above 20-30k and thats being generous.
Key sign there doing fairly bad.... 2 free trial events 3 months after launch. The number just aren't there. 2nd sign, empty servers and extremely long Que times for PvP matches. 3rd sign look how slow the forums are now days.
This is 3 months after launch and the game and forums and players are like that of a 3 year old game niche MMO that hasn't had an update or expansion or word from the devs in at least 2 years.
Simply put, while I am glad people enjoy CO it simply isn't doing well. It would have made a much better single player console game, it has about the same playability as one as most people are done with CO in there first month. The game is a great deal of fun, for a very short time. One play through is about all most people will get out of it.
I have played Champions, Fallen Earth, DFO and Aion. Fallen Earth definetly has the better crafting. Aion Second. DFO and Champions both don't even make the list for me, both crafting systems are just to beyond fail to be seriously considered.
Best launch I would give to Aion. CO while stable at first had many more issue's that while are minor things in other MMO's became major issue's due to there severity in CO. DFO had Queue issue's like Aion did, but didn't have the following or popularity to justify it. Fallen Earth had many stability issue's among other problems. Then only launch issue I've come across for Aion was that to many people wanted to play lol.
As far as why Aion is in the lead for best game of 2009 and biggest dissapointment of 2009, kind of expected. You got many that will vote for Aion being the biggest dissapointment simply because it's the better game this year and beating out there current favorite. Another reason for the lead in biggest dissapointment of 2009 is that it had far more people interested in it this year than any other MMO that came out this year. Where many games were garnering the interest of 200k-500k Aion was garnering the interest of millions.
Having that many more players interested in your game leads to having that many more dissapointed. Granted it's going to be basically about the same percentage of any other MMO, but 10% of 100k is much less than 10% of 1mil.
