EVE player destroys over $1000 worth of game time

I wish there was a video of everyone's reactions in game.

Global Agenda extends free time from launch, commits to new features in coming months

Feb 16th 2010 3:24PM (Massively)
Let's see what Blizzard's track record is:

Warcraft 2: 95
Diablo: 97
Starcraft: 98
Diablo 2: 00
Warcraft 3: 02
World of Warcraft: 04

I think it's safe to assume that Blizzard can take its sweet time simply because it can AFFORD to do so. There are game studios who go broke before their game even gets completed. And let's not get started about Daikatana and Duke Nukem Forever.

Every game studio's gotta start from somewhere and comparing them to industry giants like Blizzard is a bit unfair on so many levels. Yes, you're right: every game studio SHOULD take their time and finish their games. But is this always practical or even feasible? No.

I think that Hi-Rez is learning a lot from this experience and while I have gotten quite bored of Global Agenda already, I have hopes that Hi-Rez will have the chance to make a lot of improvements.

This is very similar in concept to the Notum Wars "booster" that came out for Anarchy Online years ago.

Only GA has gorgeous graphics, better controls, and no Atroxes with cabbages in their pants.

Are invisible mobs ushering in the Cataclysm world event?

Dec 28th 2009 2:58PM (WoW)
It was a geometry glitch, Clydtsdk. Those glitches have been in WoW since the very begining, when a mob would be beneath the visible geometry and stuck in place. If you move close to where the mob is stuck, it will aggro on you and you'll continue to take damage with no way to retaliate. Move far enough away and it'll de-aggro. That happens in a lot of places in the game.

Wintergrasp defense / offense on unbalanced realms

So would this mechanic prevent a 40-person offensive raid team from dropping in right on the front steps equipped with 55 Saronite Bombs and 25 Goblin Sapper Charges from cracking into the Vault, completely by-passing all of the siege equipment and R.P.G.G.'s?

I used to feel that way but decided that it ultimately doesn't matter (to me) since we're all playing a video game for recreation. I've often found that a person's writing style isn't always good indicator or their gaming skills or their general status as a human being.

I think it's unfair of you to consider their "blatant disregard for the English language" as a sign of disrespect to you personally. They don't know you personally and even if you did, you'd probably make exceptions for their writing style after giving them a good ribbing about it.

People seem to forget that in communication, language has two primary forms: written and spoken. Most people speak more than they write or type so it is possible for a person with impeccable elocution to have attrocious punctuation and spelling. Many people also have difficulty translating their thoughts into written form so really, villifying these people serves no purpose.

I think people who are genuinely bothered by bad writing from other players have to realise that:

1) It's just a game and it's supposed to be fun.
2) Most games have an ignore/block feature.
3) It's no use sweating the small stuff.

I prefer to use precisional spelling and grammar when I type. But I will not berate anyone who choses a more casual means of communication. I'm intelligent enough to understand the message they're trying to convey. Also, it's not like the cure for cancer is going to magically blossom out of an in-depth discussion in Trade Chat in WoW.

MMOs give us a wonderful opportunity to express ourselves and we all establish our own styles of how we present ourselves to others. Some people don't know how to type. Some people can't be bothered to spell everything with extreme precision. I don't personally care. I don't have enough time to make fun of or correct people whose grammar and spelling style deviates from my personal standards.

Patch 3.3: Fishing pool guarantees and what it means for the market

Dec 1st 2009 7:28PM (WoW)
Okay, let me ask you this: can you pick Peacebloom and Silverleaf until your Herbalism score hits 450? Can you keep skinning the beasts outside the starter areas till your Skinning score hits 450? Can you keep hitting Copper nodes until your mining score hits 450? No.

Can you keep casting and collect fish and other crap in the same pool in Orgrimmar or the canals in Stormwind all the way to the max level? Yes.

Fishing is a *Secondary Profession*, don't forget that. Theoretically, EVERYBODY should be picking up Fishing and level it up simply because they can. Do people already do this? No. Why? I'll reiterate: Fishing is boring and a lot of people are lazy/don't care. Some will do it because they want to round out their achievements. Others will do it because they want to cook Fish Feasts for raids. Others still will do it because they're in the Standby pool for a raid and it's the only gathering profession you can engage in while sitting in the same spot for hours if necessary.

Yes, I find it strange that Blizzard-Activision is doing this but like I said...it's a secondary profession that is sorely under-utilized now and will continue to be after they put that into place. I know of a lot of people who level up their fishing and wind up vendoring their fish, stowing it in their bank, or even deleting it from their inventory because they either don't know what to do with the fish they catch or just don't care to do anything with it. I know. Shocking. You'll find all kinds of weirdoes in World of Warcraft...

Patch 3.3: Fishing pool guarantees and what it means for the market

Dec 1st 2009 6:25PM (WoW)
Oh for crying out loud, Fishing is a gathering profession. And a very boring one at that. Just because people are guaranteed to get fish every time they cast their lure doesn't mean that the entire "fishing economy" in the game is going belly up.

People who are too lazy to level up their fishing now will still be too lazy to level it up after the changes in 3.3.

Because you're just standing there. Clicking. And waiting. And clicking again. If people not defending their caps in AB/AV is any gauge of the kind of players that populate our servers, I think it's safe to assume that this will have very little impact in the long term scheme of things.
