I've been very happy with CoH since the start. The teaming aspect is great, even for embittered bleary-eyed soloists (like me.)
The lure of the end game actually had me delete most of my stable of characters, and just keep around a half dozen or so (because I'd feel compelled to Incarnate them up, and I decided to limit that to a handful or my favorites.)
I also earned my first level shift working the shard path (it was a Cardiac boost, I believe...), but once they had iTrials and threads, that was my path of choice.
I can't say it was all shard-grinding, I guess, I did run a Weekly Strike Target to get the Notice of the Well for tier 3.
In fact, I credit the incarnate system for getting me to actually run task forces (even if just for shard opportunities), for most of seven years, I had been a soloist or casual teamer.
I'm also looking forward for solo incarnate missioning.
Usually, when Halloween comes, Paragon City has multiple Zombie Islands, (at least Talos Island and Peregrine Island, not even counting all of the islands in the Rogue Isles that get infested with undead invasions.)
The Halloween events in CoH are favored times, and the haunted house is an addition to an already rich event.
Have to say, I'm a fan of the Signature Story Arc.
Best reason? The Igneous Boss. Now my level 50 can finally earn his Volcanic badge. I might hunt in the Hollows for 2 Magmite lords in ten minutes, but taking 5 minutes to do mission #1 of the SSA and get a guaranteed Ig boss? Priceless.
Okay, I also like the mission overall. They threw in some interesting mechanics, and I'm looking forward to playing the villainside version at some point.
I'm looking forward to the new issue 21 content. Getting more Praetorian stuff is always welcome, and in particular, the Carnival of Light. We've encountered Carnival of Light in missions since issue 2 (was it issue 2? I forget) brought in level 41-50 content, including the first revision of Praetorian enemies.
Getting updated Carnival of Light, who aren't just Carnival of Shadows with a flipped name, should be cool.
Jeromai, you are right that CoH has a lot of soloists, but 7 years ago, I think the Devs expected people to want to team more often than not. It informed the design of hazard zones, the reliance of Task Forces for big stories (the Shadow Shard is an example of nearly all relevant content locked behind a task force), etc.
I do a lot of soloing, and I'd get a lot of grief from some people in the early days who couldn't understand why I'd want to solo in an MMORPG.
I just put more emphasis on the G part instead of the MM part.
Anyway, I've enjoyed the recent mass teaming, but I am looking forward to more solo content
Okay, I logged on as my 50+1 tank, and for fun, joined a sewer team in Atlas Park.
Our team ran into another team in the sewers, and formed a League of teams. It was very convenient to split up and rendezvous the teams, using /lc for chat.
Then my dude earned 2 Incarnate shards, while exemplared down to level 5, knee deep in green mystery fluid and robozombie Vahz.
