The Daily Grind: When have you felt superfluous?

Nov 6th 2010 5:29PM (Massively)
Oh, so Mesmer doesn't become useful/fun until at a higher level? This explains why I could never get into it. Maybe I should give Mesmer another shot...

The Daily Grind: What game did you spend the most time not playing?

Nov 5th 2010 9:12AM (Massively)
I commonly find myself logging into an MMO and doing not much besides walking around a bit and engaging in conversations in Local, Guild/Corp and Alliance Chats. But even though I don't get to actually play the game, the time I spent doing such things never feels like a waste. It is true that digital friendships aren't the same as normal friendships, but it is also true that they are friendships nonetheless, and that you can have very interesting conversations with people who you meet online.

Winners announced for EVE's starship design contest

Oct 29th 2010 9:08AM (Massively)
Glad to see the EVE Online Creative team kept the styles of the races in mind when picking the winners. Though all of the semi-finalists were beautiful designs, a number of them just didn't fit with any of the established styles.

And I love the design of the winner. I can't wait to see it in-game and perhaps fly it.

Guild Wars Hall of Monuments details revealed for Guild Wars 2

Oct 8th 2010 11:56AM (Massively)
I wonder what those 'Legacy' armour sets exactly are. I was actually hoping to actually unlock a Luxon armour set for GW2 rather than just a general 'legacy' set. Then again, maybe Luxon armour sets will be included in GW2 in the future, if they ever expand the setting to Cantha...

I am happy to see the Black Moa among the unlockables, though. It has to be my favourite of all possible ranger pets.

The Daily Grind: What's the most useless MMO skill?

Oct 6th 2010 9:04AM (Massively)
In Guild Wars, for a long time, I considered Healing Signet to be a fairly useless healing skill for Warriors compared to the rapid healing given by most Monk skills. It takes a fair amount of time to activate, whereas several Monk healing skills are instant.

It wasn't until later, when I started scrapping Monk skills from my build and focused purely on Warrior, that I realized just how useful Healing Signet is; with a high Tactics attribute, it heals you a lot, and because it is a signet it consumes no energy in the process. Considering that Warriors are very bad at energy management, this makes it one of the best healing skills that Warriors can have in their builds.

More recently I replaced it with Lion's Comfort, which is Strength-based rather than Tactics and therefore fits better with my build, but that's merely a personal preference and besides the point.

The Daily Grind: What's your preferred weapon type?

Sep 27th 2010 10:55AM (Massively)
GUITARKIND, of course.

But in case I play a game that does not have the Sylladex Inventory System, I usually use the good old sword/shield combination (as Warrior in fantasy games), or an assault rifle (as Soldier in Mass Effect, which is not an MMO but very much a RPG).

The Daily Grind: What are your favorite player-run events?

Sep 24th 2010 9:52AM (Massively)
Most definitely. Although I'm not a big fan of Hulkageddon because my primary source of income is mining and I'm essentially grounded whenever the event comes around again, every time again I'm impressed by the sheer scale of it. The participants blow literally billions of ISK worth of mining barges and exhumers to kingdom come every time a Hulkageddon is held, which is very impressive. Even though thinking about all those poor innocent Hulks that'll never get to melt another Veldspar asteroid again touches my miner heart...

If only the aftermath wouldn't last so long; weeks after Hulkageddon ends the number of suicide ganks on exhumers is still higher than normal. And I swear that the 'normal' number of ganks also increases with each successive Hulkageddon.

Incarna scheduled for summer 2011 release

Sep 24th 2010 6:30AM (Massively)
I really hope CCP isn't running on Valve Time for this, and 'Summer 2011' actually means 'Winter 2013'. Incarna is an expansion EVE Online doesn't really need, but will be improved by a lot, and I've been anticipating it ever since I started playing EVE.

EVE Evolved: Death of an Industrialist, part 2

This is exactly why you should never pay ransoms. Most pirates will kill you anyway, and simply see the ransom as a few additional quick bucks.
