EverQuest Online Adventures slays its final dragon

Mar 29th 2012 4:20PM (Massively)
RIP EQOnlineAdventures.
This was my first MMORPG back in 2003-04.
I loved it for a short time. Lots of great memories playing and listening to Conway & Steckler on the radio!

My free month is almost up for SWTOR and although I think its a solid game I'm not going to subscribe.
My main issue with the game is that the story voice acting gets really old to sit through again when you repeat a flashpoint. Maybe they will address this issue later on but it would be tricky since you get more light/dark points every time you repeat a story.
I like the voice acting for solo play questing and its one of the strong points of the game. At least there you can just hit space bar and skip ahead as you wish.
The other reason I'm not going to continue is that I feel a little too boxed into the Star Wars IP. This isn't a fault of the game but I realized after playing it for a month that I prefer MMORPGs that have more range to be creative conceptually.
Sort of like Rift, I really admire SWTOR overall but now that its out of my system I can look forward to some of the new games coming out in 2012-13.

WRUP: Do people still watch movies edition

...and the dumbing down of society continues.

Games are great but I find that younger people seem to have ADD when it comes to appreciating a great book, movie or TV program.
They have to be on Facebook or playing a video game 24/7.

Games will never replace the experience of a great movie, it's just that people's expectations for good storytelling will eventually come down to the low bar set by the likes of Final Fantasy and Mass Effect.

Very sad indeed.

Sean, you were talking about going back to old games like Allods Online and Free Realms so I was wondering if you've ever tried Vanguard: Saga of Heroes?
I've been looking for something to play while I wait on the next wave of MMOs(TOR, GW2, Secret World, ArchAge, etc.) so after trying just about everything else you can think of, I decided to give this "dead" MMO, Vanguard, a try.
Well, so far I love it! It has a very open, sandbox feel to it.(no instancing, you can build your home in the actual world, build ships to sail the open sea, crafting, diplomacy card game, etc) It does look somewhat dated but the environments and world design are very nice and detailed. I read the history behind it and I understand why it's servers have been narrowed down to just 2(1 US server that many Euros play on, too) but it's still a great game! It just seems that people aren't aware of it or have dismissed it as a "dead world".
My problem is that I really don't like to sub to 2 games at once and with SWTOR coming out soon(I have my CE preordered) I don't know what I will do about Vanguard...
Should I cancel my ToR CE and support a small game like Vanguard and be a part of a more exclusive(and more mature) community or should I just cancel my sub and switch when ToR hits?? I'm torn.
Anyways, if you ever have time on a future podcast to discuss this kind of dilemma that I'm sure many players face, then I think it would be very interesting fodder for the show.
