I also am interested in the answer to this question, as I am one of the ones promised access as well.

Massively's Star Trek Online community Q&A: Ship questions!

A) Is there anything being done to please those that wish it to see their created race appear randomly in the game world? Such as, exploring a derelict planet and coming across a small encampment of your race trying to survive? Maybe even have an NPC mission giver as one of the inhabitants?

B) Will there be instances on these derelict planets to explore for "loot" and what have you? Such as, a seemingly harmless and abandoned factory that, once inside, in filled with angry Klingons who like to drop what they carry upon death? =)

C) Probably asked by someone already: What type of loot exists? Will we come across barrels or chests that have someone's discarded Phaser and space bucks in it... or will we only get what enemies sometimes, and maybe too much emphasis on the "sometimes", drop when they are defeated?

D) What is the scope of an explorable derelict planet like? Are they small or large or HUGE? Are they very linear to travel with few paths and tons of inaccessible areas... or pretty much "open world" and we can go as we please?

E) I occasionally get bored of structure and want to just kill for my XP. One of the hopes I have in Star Trek Online is to be able to fly around visiting lots of derelicts planets and just killing and/or looting to pass my time. However, I never tire of improving my character. How rewarding is the "grind" XP, if it exists? Can some theoretically level their avatar simply by doing what I have described or will missions be forced on us?
