Why I Play: EVE Online

Mar 28th 2012 11:13AM (Massively)
I also have started EVE like 6 or 7 times only to burn out and quit after a month or so each time. I love the look and feel of the game. I also cannot get my friends to play it which may be part of the problem for me. The whole experience feels a bit lonely.

I am waiting for a game, very much like EVE, that allows for multi-passenger ships with multiple, man-able gun turrets. I want to move around in a fully-functional ship with my buddies, mine asteroid fields, dock other disabled ships, enter them and scavenge for goods (legal and illegal). I want to get into confrontations with other player-controlled ships, incapacitate them, dock them and run in guns blazing against other player groups and steal their loots.

This is the space-based game that I am waiting for. EVE doesn't quite deliver. Although it has promise and I don't fault people for loving it the way that they do. Its a great game!

SWTOR launch day questions answered

Sep 24th 2011 4:16PM (Massively)
"To prevent signup issues on launch day, log-ins will be throttled."

This is vague and I am not entirely sure I know what it means. Could the author or someone who understands this jibber-jabber please explain.

It would be nice if writers could relegate the sarcasm and sophisticated metaphor to statements that do not contain vital information.

"throttle" could mean a wide variety of things: "ramped up," "prohibited," or "beaten like a red-headed step-child."

Which one is it, cause it matters.

Cataclysm Beta: Restoration druid specialization and talents

I would like to see the tree and moonkin forms either be optional or proc when say eclipse pops or clearcasting. I wanna see the character that I created as well as the armor-lootage that I have busted my ass to get.

***Make it optional--people who like it can stay in it, while those of us who don't can just pop in and out when certain abilities are triggered.

I am one of those people that always forgets about April fools so I totally fell for this and scrolled down to see people's reactions because I was starting to get a little bit pissed knowing that the writers on this site had been critical of item-shops. I thought to myself "what nerve, these people!"

So, you got me...............good one!

The balance of force in Star Wars: the Old Republic

Nov 15th 2009 5:51PM (Massively)
Stormblue,

I find it interesting that you end your post accusing me of failed reading comprehension considering your inability to discern MY meaning. I will humbly take responsibility for this and gladly give you the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps I was unclear. Please allow me to clarify my point for you.

If a games is plagued by "inter-faction balance" then it has usually been the case that, at least in the perceptions of the players, PvP is also unbalanced. If you have a single class that is OPed then PvP balance becomes an issue. It really doesn't matter whether or not the game has a generic class system. Unbalance is unbalance--whether it is "intra" or "inter," if there is the perception of unbalance then players will complain about balance.

My point is that since balance issues exist in any game (generic class structure or an every-class-unique structure) then why do we even need to ask the question that this article asks? This is why we get generic answers from developers during development. Because we consistently ask generic questions that illicit generic responses.

The balance of force in Star Wars: the Old Republic

I disagree with the statement that "direct equivalences....ensure that the game remains perfectly balanced."

Even "direct equivalent games" can become unbalanced.

For example:
Rogues in WoW at release, Shaman in early years of WoW, Paladins in current WoW.

MMOs that focus heavily on PvP will always have balance problems WITHOUT QUESTION. This is a tired discussion.

I have never seen a game so horribly managed. They took away major content before release and now they are rendering huge portions of content irrelevant. They might as well get rid of Greenskins, Dark Elves, Dwarfs, and High Elves cause what's the point if you are forced to start in the Chaos/Empire zones.

I have been popping back into WAR from time to time, subbing for a month here and a month there, hoping beyond hope that the performance would get better and eventually I would get to see the Greenskin Cap-city.

Now, I'm done. They get ZERO of my dollars. So long Mythic.

Oh yeah, one more thing. DO NOT ruin SWTOR with your mismanagement, dishonest business policies, ridiculous marketing strategies which include broken promises and week excuses.

Bioware, don't take Mythic's advice. Just plaster a picture of the GM and dev teams on the walls and look at them everyday to remind yourselves that they are the quintessential example of how NOT to develop, release, and manage an MMO.
