SOE working on a "make good plan" for its customers

Apr 27th 2011 12:43PM (Massively)
I have never set up a PSN identity or completed any transactions via the PS3. I have, however, been playing SOE MMO's since 1995. How does the impact me? Should change my station access information?

Exclusive: RIFT's lore is Drowning in Snow

Rift features an original IP. The more you invest the more you'll be rewarded with plenty of story, lore, etc ... I'm not sure how anyone could think there's no cohesive or interesting stuff here - they just don't want to absorb anything new I guess.

BioWare releases Jedi armor progression video

I'm not sure why the EU artists / authors latched onto the old wizard's look from the first film - ignoring the fact that Uncle Owen wore the same style of robes as Old Ben. When the artists worked on concept art for the Phantom Menace they reinforced this assumption and made the brown desert folk hakama-like robes the official canon. This is why I like the Clone Armor mixed with the ubiquitous robes - pushes things a little and breaks an unfortunate mold, IMHO.

The brown robes everyone obsesses over were the SAME robes worn by Uncle Owen on Tatooine - working class desert apparel. A Good practical disguise for an old Jedi in hiding, I might add.

Luke's dark blue/black robes seen in Return of the Jedi look nothing like what has become the default iconic look of a "Jedi Robe", or as I like to call it Blue Collar Desert Chic.

Either Uncle Owen was a Jedi or .... /brainexplodes

Genndy Tartakovsky's Star Wars: Clone Wars shorts started a trend by showing Obi Wan essentially wearing Clone Trooper armor beneath his Jedi robes. I thought it was a masterstroke and instantly iconic. I'm glad artists continue to copy this inspired character design motif. Looks great.

The hacking is going to be a part of the online MMO experience from here on out.

The undeniable success of Rift's launch makes it a target for the hacking community for the same reason WoW is targeted. Money follows volume. Large markets attract hackers like chum attracts sharks.

The larger the player base the more frequent hacking events will appear on official forums.

Implicating Trion is silly at this point: sure it's possible they have an internal security risk, but what's probable is that it's 1/100 of 1% of the total subscribers have been affected: which translates into hundreds of forums threads giving the issue an abnormally large community footprint.

That said, I think linking the email to an account name was daft and I'm am very excited about the coin locking feature.

I am totally blown away by the launch. 4 months ago I had never even heard of Rift - Trion deserves all the success that comes to them.

Even if this serves as the MMO I play while waiting for GW2/TOR, that's okay, I'm very please with my experience so far.

G-Star 2010: From the show floor

What's fascinating to me is how gaming culture isn't uniform throughout the world. When a title seems to hit a cord on both sides of the pond it's exceptional. Following a few more years of east/west game developer cross-pollination, I wonder if our tastes will converge?

PS Do you feel like Shrek walking through a human village while exploring the gallery floor?
