GDC 2011: Funcom talks The Secret World's PvE, PvP, and ARG

@Tom in VA

Actually it's not a "you MUST" sort of deal. They have left plenty of room for the soloist. Some of the open-world events you do not even have to group up for, just jump in. As for instances, I've not read/heard anything of the sort, and from the videos I've seen, it appears that group content happens in the world as well, as opposed to an instance.

@xyna031

I would be more concerned if they were hyping this as 'nearly ready for release'. They've been playing around with the community for 4 years now and they're still calling it alpha stage. Beta only begins in another two months, and that's the closed, internal beta. Speculation has another two months after that before they begin staged closed beta externally for at least 3 stages before finally going with the stress-test/open beta.

So, yeah, I think they've figured out that crappy releases don't pass muster anymore.

No, they mentioned very very very very... (You get the idea), early on that no one is "the one" deal. That being the "Sole Epic Hero" is a bit ridiculous when you've got 200 other people lined up behind you being told the exact same thing. In this one, you're pretty much a soldier, and while you may be a fairly unique cog in the machine, there's no 'great destiny' for you, beyond what you do for yourself.

Not enough people have the patience to use the existing tech until it catches up to their fantasy of how it could/should work. Sadly, because of this failure to adopt, the technology will never actually reach that level. Consider the fate of Augmented Reality games. Most are rubbish or are seen as rubbish, or a cute novelty but really won't advance any further because the appearance isn't inline with the idea, and so people won't pick up on it.

As for me? If I could bodge the key commands into Eve Online (and had the money for a Kinect), by god I'd be flapping my arms like a madman.

Awesome job attacking the article writer, whining like an emo that can't get money from mommy to buy that new journal, and generally making yourself look like an absolute fool.

You and the rest of the 'community' continue to call yourself mature, but you prove time and again how immature you really are, especially with all of the crying just like you're doing here.

Mature doesn't mean running around and talking dirty with people in private chats while you have yourself a wank. It means acting like an adult, recognizing that things change, and going with those changes in a mature manner, or taking your things and leaving.

Perhaps you should stop, take a deep breath and think about it with the big head for a little bit, you know, the one on your shoulders? That is how a mature person handles things.

New video highlights character creation in Final Fantasy XIV

Actually I was talking about the still picture at the top of the article. The video was a bit harder to see anything lol

That said, the customization looks nice. I'm still waiting to see if CCP ever implements their system for hair/clothing simply because if they can manage that without absolutely killing their servers, it will be awesome.

Considering all the outrage over TERA, I'm wondering how many people are going to be on here shouting about the nipples in the main image..

More on topic, I might give this game a go. Been awhile since I played anything FF-ish.

[Updated] You have questions and developers have answers: Send us your burning E3 questions!

Jun 8th 2010 3:49PM (Massively)
I don't have a question for the companies that show at E3, but I am curious to see if you could get in contact with those companies not showing.

This list, while comprehensive as Sera said earlier, is missing a few (CCP, Funcom as noted examples). Any clues as to why they're not showing?
