Aion opens a new server, eliminates subs, and reactivates accounts today

Apr 4th 2012 3:44PM (Massively)
I've been playing this game since early Feb. and really enjoying it. Looking forward to 3.0. It's still slightly grindy but nowhere near as much as some other games I've played. Graphics are stunning, story is good, subscriptions are gone and I'm due for just over a month's worth of store credit with from my leftover subscription time. Wish other games held my attention this well.

Still waiting for the servers to come back up tho...tick, tick, tick...

Wings Over Atreia: Producing info

Mar 26th 2012 7:13PM (Massively)
Whoa...deja vu. I was asking these very same questions in the comments on the post about the producer interview, but of course you can't identify who it was because after 3 years of having an account on this site I still can't freaking verify it so I can use a personal username!

Totally agree with everything MJ said here, but can someone tell me how or even if I can verify my account? This is getting really annoying! Don't the users of this site deserve better?

Aion producer talks about 3.0 and being truly free

Mar 21st 2012 8:28PM (Massively)
I'm really looking forward to this, though I do wish this video were a bit longer and more comprehensive. It can be really annoying to get just quick one-sentence answers to important questions.

For example, I'd like to know more about the store and the C.U.B.E. system. What kinds of things will be available? How will they avoid a pay-to-win scenario? Just saying you're conscious of the issue isn't
enough, tell us how you're going to do it.

What's going to change for current players once the update hits? How will our experience change when we log in for the first time after the update? What should we make it a point to check out? What should we be aware of that we might not notice immediately but could impact the way we play the game from now on?

Still so many unanswered questions about 3.0 and this video really did very little to answer them.

Sure, keep most of the lore-related stuff under wraps for now, I'm cool with that, but come on now, this video is just barely a tease! Personally, I think current players deserve a bit more information than we're getting here.

Aion: Ascension and F2P launch date set

Mar 15th 2012 1:45PM (Massively)
@(Unverified) Totally agree. I've wasted more money than I care to acknowledge by pre-paying for game time I later find I can't use due to real life responsibilities.

And on a completely different topic: Hey Massively editors, how the heck does one verify their account? Every time I log into this site to post a comment, it thinks I'm a new user and asks me to choose a username which I do, then when I go to post the comment it reverts back to "Unverified". I've had an account at this site for about 3 years now, and I'd like to finally be able to publicly use my chosen username.

If this is a bug, it's a pretty long-standing one. Is there a fix, workaround, something?

Aion: Ascension and F2P launch date set

@Warsyde I'm guessing that we're talking about convenience items: scrolls, potions, XP gain, dyes, cosmetic changes, premium wings, armor, weapons, etc. Hopefully, it won't be anything that you can't get with enough kinah (i.e. gameplay time invested), just that you can get it faster and more easily by buying it with real cash.

Aion: Ascension and F2P launch date set

It looks good and I like the C.U.B.E. idea. As a player of Fallen Earth as well, my biggest issue with their F2P model is the crappy store and the tiered player levels. This seems to address those issues quite well and as a new Aion player it inspires me to get even more involved with the game than I already am.

One thing though: If you watch the new video posted on the official site today, at the end you'll see that they're apparently now calling the 3.0 update "War of Ascension" instead of just "Ascension". Perhaps a minor point, but one that indicates that there's still more relevant information yet to come.

DUST 514 will be F2P and free to download

My real name and address is valuable information as well and even if my credit card number isn't included, I don't believe that Sony has demonstrated that it's a responsible steward of their players personal information.

When DCUO was released I bought it, signed up for an account and provided all that information. Soon afterward, I started getting the "Gee, we're really sorry we didn't bother to install security strong enough to prevent hackers from stealing all your personal information." emails.

I noticed a marked increase in spam at the personal email address I'd provided to Sony, and even had someone in China attempt to hijack my Facebook account, which was connected to that email. Fortunately Facebook caught it and disabled my account before they were able to log in, but that's not really the point.

I'm a blogger and Internet radio host and much of my blog and show promotion is done through Facebook. If that account had been compromised and turned into a spam-bot the impact would have been devastating for me. When push comes to shove, I'd rather never play another Sony-connected game again than risk my non-gaming endeavors being compromised by Sony's corporate irresponsibility in protecting their customers personal information.

The point is that Sony has proven itself unworthy of my trust and so I will no longer offer it. My Playstation now sits collecting dust and I now exclusively use my PC for gaming so I can pick and choose which companies I provide my personal information to rather than being forced to either go buy GTC's every time I need to make a payment or risk a repeat of having my personal information sold to spammers.

DUST 514 will be F2P and free to download

Any game that involves providing payment information through Sony or any Sony product is not one I'll be participating in, F2P or not. Just too much of a risk.

Fallen Earth's December State of the Game talks F2P transition, new features

Um, actually Fallen Earth went F2P back in October, not last month. Just sayin'...

Fallen Earth partners with MAINGEAR for Play2Win contest

Nov 17th 2011 4:03PM (Massively)
I'm a loyal FE player, but I have to admit I'm not a big fan of this contest either. I have neither the time nor the inclination to scavenge for hours on end just to find the most computer parts. I've been in-game for a few hours since this contest started and I've yet to find even a single one.

In addition, you know it's going to be some kid who can play every day after school until bedtime and all day on weekends who wins this thing because the vast majority of adults with adult responsibilities aren't going to have the time or the willingness to just scavenge for computer parts in the game for the next few weeks day after day.

It seems there's a trend emerging since G1 bought FE, and that's rushed-out "improvements" and promotions which aren't really fully thought through before they're released.

Another key example of this is FE's new invisible armor, a way of charging players for the ability to turn the visuals of their armor on and off, a feature that's pretty much a free standard option in MMO's these days, especially those which incorporate wearable vanity items. They rushed this "feature" out too, but in their haste to monetize the game they didn't bother to pay attention to what the players were telling them we wanted and so they released invisible armor for all the slots players said they didn't care about and none for the slots we said we did.

I hope G1 finally figures out that they need to start paying attention to the wants and needs of their player base, not just what they think will maximize their own bottom line or the F2P version of this game will probably prove to be rather short-lived.
