Patch 4.0.3a, The Shattering: Patch notes

Nov 24th 2010 1:46AM (WoW)
You know, I've been playing WoW for a long time (on and off since vanilla) and I have -never- whined about class changes before. That should put into perspective just how defeated I am by the warrior changes...

I've received a constant string of abuse since the last patch: "Work on your TPS n00b!" "Is this your first time tanking?!" "FFS GET AGGRO TANK!!!" (Note to DPS: That stuff HURTS. Stop it.)

I'm the first to blame myself if I'm not doing so well after a big patch (afterall, I've got to get used to the changes), so I've tried respeccing, I've tried different glyphs, I've tried reforging my gear. Some changes helped slightly, but nothing can keep my threat on top of your average well geared DPS. I've spoken to other warriors and we all agree, our threat generation is a bit "off" now and all we can do is sacrifice survivability talents (i.e. the point of being a tank) for damage in order to try and keep up while we await some kind of fix.

Then I find out that my damage abilities are being reduced by 17-25% almost across the board... what?!

Unless I'm wrong, my ability to hold aggro is no longer up to me. If the DPS hold back, I'll do fine. As long as I'm pushing some buttons during the fight; I don't even factor into it at all. I can be on top of my game and I'll still lose aggro if the DPS can't contain themselves. Yet, I'll still get screamed at/insulted/kicked when someone else fails to watch Omen. This isn't fun anymore... Someone please tell me that I'm missing something!

Ah, well. At least Azeroth is shiny and new now.

Questionable EVE attack deals 30 billion ISK in damage

Oct 13th 2010 7:35AM (Massively)
The tutorial should drum the following motto into all new players:

"Don't fly what you cannot afford to lose."

Every time you undock in a ship in EVE, even in high sec, consider it lost. If you make it back with your ship then it's a bonus. The only way you're going to "lose everything you work for" is if you're daft enough to put your entire savings into a single ship and then take it out for a spin. I never fly anything unless I can afford to buy another one when it goes pop.

The sense of real loss in EVE gives it a unique adrenaline rush when you get attacked. I've yet to experience that same feeling in any other video game and I'm definately happy that EVE exists because of it. That being said, it does get a bit much for me some times so I periodically take breaks and play something a bit less hardcore!

Anti-Aliased: When playing a bad game is just so good pt. 2

It's worth pointing out that the character customisation (accessed from the "social district") is free and won't count against your hours. Your paid time only starts ticking away when you go into an "action district".)

If you're going to be making symbols/tattoos/clothing/cars/death themes a lot then this is well worth keeping in mind.

Also, I got 60 hours when I bought the game on Steam. I can't remember the last time I put 60 hours into any game, it's well worth the purchase even if you never buy any more game time.

World of Tanks trailer roasts EVE

Jul 1st 2010 10:49PM (Massively)
I usually find this sort of thing funny, like the "no elves" ad campaign. But this was just a video version of that same old "argument" that people who have never played EVE use to describe how "boring" they think it is.

EVE is nothing like that. Noone would play it if it was.

I can't say that I've read that much about world of tanks, but I don't really see the connection either. That being said the end did get a chuckle out of me. I doubt if it'll be my sort of thing, but I'll keep an eye out for it at least.

Video shows CCP's incredible cloth and hair simulation

Mar 22nd 2010 12:11AM (Massively)
To my knowledge that happened once, a -very- long time ago and it was only one dev who was aptly punished for it.

It's hardly enough to call CCP "the company that cheats it's players".

...but yeah. Pretty. :)

The Daily Grind: A better death

I feel that you have sort of missed the point. The sort of death penalty you are describing is how to do it wrong, which a lot of developers are guilty of.

When done right it should enrich the gameplay, not be a substitute for less content.
