An early look at the Warhammer 40K MMO

Dec 2nd 2009 11:44AM (Massively)
Don't you even dare associate this game with the piece of garbage released by Mythic. The latter should not even have been attempted. This is the real Warhammer. This is the real deal. I hope...

Aion reports nearly 1 million copies sold in North America and Europe

Nov 10th 2009 12:26PM (Massively)
It is a sad state of affairs when a game like that actually makes it to the top. Personally, I would have rather had WAR, AoC, and even Vanguard get to the top tiers within gaming rather than Aion. Not a huge fan of Anime style MMOs and there seems to be an influx of them lately.

The Daily Grind: Is Warhammer Online doomed?

Nov 10th 2009 10:09AM (Massively)
I gave this game a second go not too long ago and was pleasantly surprised. I mean, it has indeed came a long way. I can see why people would think that it is doomed. Personally, I think that it was doomed from the beginning. Being a PvP centric game is not what people want. That was proven with so many games.

If they want to copy WoW's success, why not use the same formula. Make a wonderful PvE and then add PvP as an extra bonus. Obviously everything needs to be taken in moderation, but even so, if you make a clone, then make a good one at least.

That is what I think was the problem with WAR. Honestly, I do not condone a game for trying to be good, in fact I think that WAR as an IP was taken by the wrong people. I hated DAoC with a passion and it was a low blow to me when one of my favorite universes was taken by Mythic.

I guess I will wait and see what will happen to WAR 40K. Please be good...

CrimeCraft launches, producer responds to naysayers

Aug 26th 2009 10:50AM (Massively)
Probably the worst thing about this game is its name. Come on! Seriously! Warcraft... Crimecraft! Its like one of those terribly movie remakes or something. Overall a terribly first impression from a company that cannot even make a decent name for their MMO. Based on what the rest of the public is saying about this game, it is a steaming pile of... well, you know.

The Daily Grind: If presented the opportunity to cheat, would you?

Aug 26th 2009 10:43AM (Massively)
Personally, I think that I would cheat only if the opportunity to do so directly benefited me. If its something small that I can get by without, then I would likely report it, but if its something that will skyrocket me to Eden of wealth or power, then FTW. The thing is that, it is games that we are talking about, and if the designers did not make some parts so frustrating, or at least adjusted the said parts for the casual gamer, the exploits around that part would always get reported.

Graphical anomalies, sound errors, and perhaps some glitches would always get reported because they get in the way. On the other hand, it is less likely to report something that actually helps you. It is only human to take the help in conquering something, be it a game, or real life situation.

The poster Jay, is absolutely correct. Very good analogy. Everyone says that they never cheat. Hell, I was one of those people before. I would say: "I don't cheat!" and then turn around and use some cheats when I would get to a point of the game that I just want to pass and forget about. Obviously cheating in MMOs is a bad thing and I do not say that I do it, but if I suddenly got a million gold on one of my characters, I am not saying a word. I am spending it all on the AH before something could be done about it. Call me a cheating jacka$$ if you will, but I can tell you that I am only human. Developers make mistakes, players take advantage of those mistakes. In the end, it is more incentive for the developers to proof all the code.

The Daily Grind: Are you down with the apocalypse?

Aug 14th 2009 10:10AM (Massively)
I am not completely sure what the game is about to start off with. I must say that I am in no rush at all to buy this game, much less to pre-order it. It is definitely not my style of play and it seems that post-apocalyptic setting is getting a bit overused over the recent time. Before it was fantasy setting, and now it is post-apocalypse everywhere. Seriously don't like the extreme shifts like that.

In any case, I see many positive reviews of the game from its beta. Personally, I would wait until it is out and see how it is doing after about a week to a month and then take it from there. If the game has grown in popularity, then I am all for it in the long run.

Fourth and fifth Dark Age of Camelot expansions now free

Aug 14th 2009 10:02AM (Massively)
Ah, the good old DAoC. I remember playing that maybe five to seven years ago and thinking that it was pretty good for the time. Got Darkness Rising, and then sort of lost interest in the game after that. GW, WoW, and L2 were my steps out of DAoC. After a while, got hooked on WoW like many people and played that, forgetting all about DAoC.

Its an old game with the old world graphics and engine. Nevertheless, it was fun and I never got to see what the Labyrinth of the Minotaur was all about either. I did hear some mixed reviews about the expansion, but nothing definite. After WAR was released, I thought that Mythic dropped the ball. I had much higher hoped for WAR because it was made in the here and now time. DAoC is a grandfather now that pioneered the MMORPG genre so I can forgive that one a few hick-ups.

Maybe I should give it some time maybe over the weekend, for nostalgia's sake. Just don't want to be dissappointed if the LotM expansion is crappy. Does anyone know if its any good? I was thinking about giving it a try to see what the game changed over almost a decade that I have not been playing it.

Create my Champion: BGBB

Aug 14th 2009 9:51AM (Massively)
I have actually wanted to play this game for a while now. I was not too into the City of Villains/Heroes, because I thought that it had a bit too little in terms of character generation. From a superhero/villain game, I expect nothing short than millions to billions of possible combinations. Every superhero is unique after all.

From CO, I can see that they are adding a ton of customizations for the frugal character designers like me. Not to mention, this little article brings the guns into view. What kind of superhero has guns as the power? "That's your power, you have guns... how does a gun fit in with disco?" (Mystery Men reference). Nevertheless, I really like the concept of a gun being used as a power set. Probably would go for the handgun, just seems the most hardcore.

Anyway, can't wait to test this game out and I must say that I have pretty high expectations.
