The Daily Grind: Do you want a 'fair' fight?

Jan 26th 2012 2:36PM (Massively)
When the teams are even it's a better fight IMO.

When one side is just farming - it's not fun at all for the people being farmed - and tbh - when you can push a few buttons and just take someone out with no effort - that also gets boring after awhile ...

unless you have such low self-esteem it's the only way you can feel good about yourself.

Bleh. Corporate bean counters thinking they know how to run an MMO.

@Traptz I knew there was a problem. But I also knew the MMO had just been released.

Good news. I am particularly enjoying the SWTOR PvP - at least in regards to the Warzone PvP. Have not tried the open world as it still appears problematic especially for someone who prefers to play solo.

The fight mechanics between all the different classes are pretty well done coming out of the gate. There are a few annoying - sort of - amateur mistakes still present (but the game is only a month old so I'm willing to give it time to be ironed out). For example, the presence of chain CC'ng - is a well-known problem in PvP - and usually is resolved by making immunity timers against all CC effects once an anti-CC ability is used.

Play balance was fixed relatively quickly in the Warzones - although I think this could still be tweaked a bit more - i.e. have pre-mades fight mostly against pre-mades (or groups against groups) and that there probably needs to be one additional bracket of say 30s & 40s for the Warzones - as it still is pretty frustrating when facing a team of all 40s with a team that has none.

The Warzones especially Huttball are a kick. Inventive and funny at times (the acid pools, the fire vents) - the way certain players can take advantage of these etc.

Game playing shouldn't be a market. But many corporate beanheads who now have taken over some of the games and are producting them - are turning many games into mostly a place to sell stuff.

It's why I no longer play LOTRO. All I get in my email these days is - SALE ON NOW, COME ON DOWN.

I get enough of that in real life. Greed - corporate greed.

This Week in MMO: Hey guys have you heard about Ilum? edition

Jan 20th 2012 11:52PM (Massively)
There's been nothing but an onslaught of negative press at this sight toward SWTOR. Honestly, Bioware should look into perhaps libel.

With Star Trek - all you get is promotion - and we all know what a piece of crap MMO that is.

@Lateris Yes - the responded in a fashion you rarely see IMO - in fixing the initial ILUM patch problem.

I'm not excusing however the lack of awareness of their initial patch - I think they need to pool a little more expertise into the PvP team - since obviously they've made some pretty stupid design decisions - at least when it comes to balance. However - they've also have some excellent PvP gameplay when there is balance. The Warzones - which is another PvP arena in the game - are doing very good after this patch - once they removed all the uber-geared 50s - the players who are likely whining like babies right now - into their own bracket.

I give Bioware/Lucas Arts many karma points for responding so quickly to the initial Ilum patch - within 24 hours!

My advise: ignore the negative press - which I honestly do now feel comes from some disgruntled gaming competitors who are working hard to throw mud at SWTOR as much as they can - in order to soften the impact the game is making in the industry.

I still think the game is amazing. Sound, visuals - and story bring something that plenty of cookie cutter - text based MMOs fail - and fail pretty badly at.

It's nice to have a music track that actually is integrated into the game - not on an endless repeat ad-nauseum. It's good to see an MMO that actually pays quite a bit of attention to sound and context...

Man - I don't think I've seen so many whiners in my life.

First of all - Ilum Open World is only a sliver percent of what the entire game is about - but the posters here act like it's the end of the world and SWTOR.

2nd - there is no talk at all from all these whiners about the fixes Bioware made to Warzones. From quite a few forum posts - the player responses have been enormously positive - and the Warzones are popular as ever.

3rd - the first group and new dungeon update is released a month later? And you guys are complaining about it?

Holy Moly.

Guys - the game is far from broken. In fact - it's had a comparatively excellent rollout versus other MMO rollouts IMO. I would say a good majority of the players are enjoying it and the plans for future improvements are in full swing. Who cares about a bunch of 50 crybabies who rushed to end game PvP content and expected it to be absolutely perfect - while 90% of gameplayers are barely hitting level 30 at the moment?

SWTOR's new patch makes a mess, BioWare looking into it [Updated]

@Lateris >> Is PvP the only issue

It's the one people are pouncing on to give SWTOR as much negative press as possible.

Also - there are two types of PvP in TOR: warzone matches and Open World. The warzone matches have been fixed pretty decently - it's the Open World that is still problematic.

There have been no mass complaints about the PvE side of the game - no glaring issues - other than the constant negative press - often from this website - about how SWTOR really isn't nothing new.

It's funny - we got all this neg press for SWTOR - but Star Trek Online - which really is a piece of crap - is constantly being given accolades on this website.

I guess corruption - doing everything just based on who will bribe you the most - isn't just in Washington.

I think the PvP action is pretty good - each toon is fun to play. What they have dropped the ball on is overall balance in matches - open world. It's not so bad now in Warzones as they have bracketed the rank 50 players - although more balancing mechanisms would be nice.

I don't get all this "I'm quitting" the game just because the open world isn't working right now. SWTOR is not simply about open world PvP - and if that's all you're there for - then yeah - move along ... You do need some other game to play.
