The Daily Grind: What do you think about experience scrolls?

Nov 22nd 2010 3:13PM (Massively)
In WAR's case it's a desperate move on a sinking ship, I guess if it keeps them afloat, good for them, but I won't be there.

I think it's kind of hilarious that exp scrolls basically allow you to skip content you paid for.... pay more to get less out of what you initially paid for? HAH It's like going to some restaurant, buying a meal, and then paying someone else to eat it for you, so you don't have to bother with chewing. LULZ

Final Fantasy XIV improving skill gains

What alarm bells? what are you "calling him on"? SE has been putting out these FAQ things just about every day leading up to the patch, therefore, new story everyday.

The Mog Log: The road ahead

Exactly why XIV launched when it did is certainly a perplexing question. Less then a month after release they very publicly admitted it was a mistake by giving the players an extra 30days. The question is why the hell couldn't they have just decided to push the release date back instead of suffer the massive blowback from releasing an obviously beta stage game?

Sept. 30th is the last date in Q3 and it seems like SE accountants were really the ones that chose the release date, no matter what the state of the game. In the end they managed to make their Q3 earnings look a little better and super screwed their multi-million dollar, multi-year project for many years to come. Super fucking stupid.

Square-Enix working hard to "regain trust" with players and investors

Sorry gotta call BS on this. You're basically saying anyone with a positive view is "disingenuous" and anyone that has a negative view is.. what? supremely honest?

My point is that it seems like many, simply positive posts, get modded down, but out right flaming is considered fine on massively... or I guess the internet everywhere.

Square-Enix working hard to "regain trust" with players and investors

If someone can figure out how to harness the endless power of MMO hatred we might just solve our global energy crisis.

It's amazing to me that someone can post "this game is shit" but it's the guy that says he likes it that will get modded down.

But anyways, regaining trust is exactly what SE needs to do... at least they "get it".

Maybe we could hold a rally, "to keep hope alive", that all MMO's launched in beta can get their shit together in the first 6months and go on to do well.

Here is my rally sign: "I bought STO and XIV at launch and I'm pretty sure my life hasn't been totally ruined yet."

More information on crafting in Final Fantasy XIV

I love that SE made crafting a major part of XIV, but I have to say the crafting mini-game is disappointing... vanguards crafting is much better imo, XIV is basically spamming "standard" over and over and over, HQ's are totally random, but still somehow I'm hooked... ugggh.

The Soapbox: Playing alone together

I've become a soloer myself... but I'd love to see a developer make a serious attempt at a group based MMO. Fact is that if there is a solo option nearly every player will take it, and even if you want to group, because no one has to, it's like pulling teeth trying to get anyone mildly interested.

I think as developers have started trying to make games that are all things to all people at all times, group style content has been pushed aside in favor of solo content with the "oh yeah and you can get a group together and do this solo content as well, cause we are all about grouping...and also pve and pvp and pvpepvep".

If there was a game that featured "forced grouping" I'd definitely be interested.

The Mog Log: We all live in a community submarine

Good lawd... the venom some of you people have for XIV/Eliot.. wtf?

I rarely even skim over game reviews, they just seem like glorified forum posters that happened to use spell-check for once, but it's hard to imagine how XIV in it's current state could get a "good" review.

The odd disconnect to me is that so much of the loudest criticism/hate missed the mark on what is really wrong/broke with the game. Seems like a month or so ago the forums were all in a rage about the general style of SE's approach and the fact that it's not quite "normal" or "western", like "NO PVP = DOOOOOM" and so forth.

After playing the game for about 6 weeks between beta and live, the actual problem is that the game is no where near "finished" enough to launch, major game systems are either missing or super funked up, and the real kicker is that it runs like shit, even on super computers. It's sooo vanguard...

I know there are some hate spewers that have patted themselves on the back about the extra 30days, claiming internet victory and the pure righteousness of their holy hatred saving the internet from every evil MMO day after day, but I think much of it has missed the mark and not really done anyone any good.

I've sent in more bug reports to XIV then I have for any other game, and many of the ones I've sent in have already been dealt with, at least in part. The list of things they are supposedly working on hits on just about everything, and at least we know they are listening and working on it. The extra 30days was a big decision, gotta give them credit on that, I'm not sure very many other companies would have had the chocobonuts to do that.

My big long-term concern is that they have this obvious PS3 foundation.... can they really turn this into a PC game? even in a years time? I don't know...

Anti-Aliased: What happened to building worlds pt. 2

MMO Dev's of all stripes are barely capable of putting out a game that's 60% "done", if you really want a "living world" of the type you describe... you're lookin in all the wrong places.
