I am waiting for the DF2010 expansion to really push df on my friends.
New character models. New animations. Double the number of items in game. Clan vendors in NPC cities. New dungeons. Some sort of land based sea tower. and the biggest of all Prestige classes ( these should massively reduce the grind to be competitive)
Before that hits we should also get a totally new ambient sound engine and offline skill gain to help noobies catch up.
DF has a LONG way to go. But it looks like DF2010 is going to be huge. The devs have talked about it being the relaunch of Darkfall.
AV have been improving everything about this game over the last few years.
With the launch of DF2010 sometime early in 2011 the game will be amazing. All th major complaints people have about this game are either fixed or have been identified to be fixed in the next expansion. Can't wait.
Remember that while you wont be able to go toe to toe with a vet in the short time you are playing you will be able to contribute to your team from day 1 (granted you will contribute more after a week or two)
If I can offer one important piece of advice its BANK OFTEN!
Get a good clan ASAP. A good clan will let you join in everything within days of joining. Sure you will suck but they wont care.
If you do come to Darkfall major Alliances look like they will take you under their wing and let you see some of the higher end content faster than a normal player. This should give you a better understanding of what its like to be a DF player and why they love it.
The problem is Torak that if you don't pay then you can't play. All that will happen here is it will drive more of their players away from the game.
I don't mind paying for extra content, but asking me to pay to just have a slightly larger number beside my name sucks.
Sure I can not pay, but then I have to accept I will get my ass kicked in PvP. If this was PvE it wouldn't matter, but in PvP you need a level playing field.
I think this might be about the right time to call it quits on WAR. LOTRO went F2P in EU today.
Specialized Training Pack – $9.99 USD, all characters on an account will recieve one War Tract that will allow them to immediately advance one full level when used
At least the admit leveling in WAR sucks. We all thought they would improve it. They decided to let you pay them to miss it, on top of your sub that is. WTF!
The UI and the Chat are having a total overhaul in the DF2010 expansion. We don't really know what that means yet.
It might be that things are going to be totally different or maybe its all under the hood upgrades, we need to wait and see. The one thing we do know is thay are putting a lot of man hours into doing something with it.
My hope is that this is aimed more at noobs rather than vets.
I would like to see this used to narrow the gap between new players and long time players as this is one of the biggest problems with the game currently.
I think that by letting people skill up stats to a maximum of say 60, weapon skills but not masteries and magic schools but not spells could go a long way to helping noobs catch up.
Vets would also benefit as they could take advantage of the free skill gains to help them level a new weapon or magic school they couldn't be bothered with before.
There are boxed version currently for sale in Greece. They are about to launch boxed copies in Russia with a plan to roll them out world wide at some point.
