And He said unto them: "Rename The Bible Online"

Joe.. grow up. Quit claiming belief when you mean faith. Faith is acceptance despite ignorance or lack of belief. Belief is not an act of volition. Data comes in to your brain and belief happens or it doesn't, based on said data. You can't choose what to believe and what not to. No matter how hard you try, you can't believe that your computer is a tomato... Just like you can't believe a magic man in the sky is pulling all our puppet strings, working out some play to which the ending is already written. Just like you can't believe in virgin birth, people walking on water, coming back from the dead, piling two of every animal in a boat or living in the belly of a fish. These things require faith, because they are literally unbelievable... incredible even. You know what's real and what's a fairy tale, despite the delusions you foster in yourself. A mass delusion, is still a delusion, and Christianity is still a cult, albeit a very large one. Science, by it's very definition requires no faith. You do not, as you put it, have to "believe" in it. A fact is a fact whether YOU accept it or not.

EA puts faith in The Old Republic's lifespan and profits

I agree with SiML here... The only way I see this game having the kind of longevity they are predicting, is for them to expand the space aspect to be much more robust that what has been shown so far. I don't doubt they can do it through an expansion. SWG launched without it's space-game, and it turned out to be one of the best parts of the game when added. In the very least, space combat needs to be cooperative, rather than a strictly solo experience.

The Daily Grind: Real ID -- Do we finally have our WoW killer?

Jul 7th 2010 1:26PM (Massively)
I think this is one of the most asinine things I have ever seen a game developer do. I don't play WOW, never have and never will.... but I really don't understand the motivation here. Blizzard already has the real name of their subscribers, why do they feel the need to share it with all the other players? Do people really want their boss to know how much time they spend at work posting on a video game forum? If I get in an argument with some emotionally imbalanced kid, I don't want him google me and find my work contact info or home address. It seems like the nerd-ragers are the only people this will benefit at all.

I can probably think of a hundred reasons why this is a bad idea and not a single positive that will come from it. Do they think people will be more polite with their real name on the top of their posts? That is a ridiculous leap of reasoning.

Executive Producer of Jumpgate Evolution gives information on game's status

... because it's what the article said. They wanted to add depth to the basic space combat game, they couldn't make it work, so they started cutting content. I don't see anywhere that he mentions ADDING anything... just the cuts.

It sounds to me like the game was delayed to REMOVE content. I didn't read anything in that article to imply that additions had been made. Basically, they delayed the game for a year so they could deliver LESS at launch. This is a game I was really excited about at one point, not it just seems to have FAIL written all over it.

The Daily Grind: What are you proudest of crafting?

Dec 15th 2009 3:15PM (Massively)
The NGE killed the social game by reducing the subscriber numbers to a fraction of what they were, and while it didn't kill crafting, it did obsolete some professions. My armorsmith business dropped to almost zero with the addition of statted gear drops. The later addition of bio-engineering did create a lot of new business for crafters, but the market for armor and weapons is still next to nothing.

The Daily Grind: What are you proudest of crafting?

I have still not seen a game that matches pre-cu SWG for depth of the the crafting system. I remember the first time I made a set of RIS armor, the stats were terrible, and it eventually ended up as vendor clothing... but it was the culmination of such a long term goal that I'll never forget it. I was eventually able to make max-stat sets. By gathering all my own resources and drops I could keep me and a few buddies rolling in credits just selling a suit or two a week. :)

EVE Online sets new peak concurrent user record

Dec 7th 2009 3:15PM (Massively)
Two thousand people playing the game, 30,000 parked in stations chatting and 20,000 logged in to manage their training queue. ;)

Seriously though, is it really worth crowing about a single server if it's divided up in to thousands of separate instances?

Looking ahead to WAR's second year

I started at launch and I still enjoy the game and play a few hours a day.. sometimes several. As much as I enjoy RvR just for the fun of it, I am starting to worry what will happen to the game with no new content AT ALL on the horizon. If they are working on it, they haven't mentioned it yet. Seems to be in full on maintenance mode now... just balance and bug squashing. :(

Massively's Star Trek Online beta key giveaway

Sep 15th 2009 4:38PM (Massively)
I have been a Star Trek fan my whole life... can't wait to get my hands on this game. I am really excited about being able to create my own Star Trek race. :)
