The Road to Mordor: Entitled

Oct 1st 2010 1:14PM (Massively)
I think "Servant of Process" is one of my favorite titles for humor value. And you can't beat "A Light from the Darkness" or "Lord of the Silver Chain" for looking awesome.

Game Nation plans real-life MMORPG

Has no one ever LARPed before on the Massively staff? Seriously?

You don't have to wait for a theme park to be built - you have literally been able to do this for over a decade.

Yes, yes, yes. This is by far my biggest pet peeve, and if someone hadn't already written about it, I was going to.

The most efficient way to make money in MMOs

Dec 14th 2009 10:25AM (Massively)
Maybe an important question is - is it even possible to "legitimately" earn your gold these days? Now, don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely not advocating buying gold online, but consider:

To make your gold, you go out and kill monsters. One of them drops an awesome item, which you rush to the Auction House to sell.

Now, in a "normal" environment, you would make (say) 200 gold. But since RMT exists in this world, some player who just bought 1500 gold for $12 buys your item, bidding 1000 gold. You make 1000 gold, and congratulate yourself on "earning" it legitimately. But the process was still ultimately tainted upward by the RMT.

Short of vendor-trashing all items and only collecting the paltry coins the average mob drops (or the why-am-I-working-minimum-wage-in-WoW daily repeatable quests) - how do we define "legitimate" earning of gold, as opposed to "RMT influenced" earning of gold?

One Shots: We all float down here

Am I the only one who thinks this shot is supposed to be completely underwater? (hence why the character appears to be swimming and the corpses are neutrally buoyant)

The Daily Grind: Teleportation/flights versus other travel

Jul 24th 2009 9:37AM (Massively)
I just keep thinking about Lord of the Rings (the books or movies, not the MMO), and how the entire story is a travel sequence (arguably, an escort quest). In a modern MMO, Frodo would just go find Gandalf, who would instantly teleport him to Mount Doom; or, alternatively, he'd go to the Shire travel-vendor and buy himself a horse-ride to the feet of Mount Doom (at a travel location made to facilitate those Barad-dum raids).
