Who wins in the fight between these two superheroes?

Oct 13th 2009 5:31PM (Massively)
Sorry, my point wasn't that a $30 difference was a measure of quality or which a consumer would buy first, just that a new player to either game is less likely to care which game is new and which is old when it comes to comparing the two titles.

In the area of genre and monthly fees (ignoring MTs of course), they ARE the same and thus comparable regardless of age. That was my point. Admittedly I shouldn't have even mentioned price of box.]\

Er, that should be $50, not $5.

I don't agree with this.

If I went out to buy a superhero MMO right now, I'd had only two choices: one for $20 and one for $5, with both having identical monthly fees. From a consumers standpoint who doesn't care how long either of them have been around and just wants to play in a world of skyscrapers and tights, I'd say they are VERY comparable, certainly moreseo than your example.

Can Champions Online overcome launch issues?

Exactly. Not all of us are revolving MMO players hopping onto every flavor of the month game, always looking for that 'something' that chances are your first MMO provided and each subsequent one didn't.

I'm playing Champions because it lets me fly over buildings, launch a trick arrow into a zombies noggin', and hurl stagecoaches into piles of robotic cowboys. SW:TOR, for example, despite being the new savior to the industry isn't likely to let me do those things.

Hmm... I see that while there are many powers to choose from within Champions, the number one super power of the Massively readers is flawless premonition.

Guess I'd better stop having fun and find me a Murlock to kill.

I'm as big a fan of this game as can be. If you enjoy superheroes and maybe a touch of camp (as I do), you'll probably love the heck out of this game.

That said, if superheroes just aren't your thing or a $50 impulse purchase is a pinch to you, it might be worth waiting another month or two or for a price break. The content IS a bit light at the moment and the community is still trying to find its ground. I have little doubt these things won't come around in time, it's just a matter of patience while these develop. Personally I've put my money where my mouth is and have paid for 3 months in advance and have not regretted that choice yet.

I will say, nothing in an MMO to date beats the pure joy of trowing stagecoaches at robot cowboys. NOTHING!

Agreed, great show! As someone who has only recently been bitten by the Guild Wars bug, it's nice to still hear things about it.
