Ask Cryptic about Klingons in STO

ccon99....um what? you can create INSTANCES with 10v10, thats a pvp mode, but there are open maps (neutral zone) where it is open world pvp....i highly doubt the pop. cap on the neutral zone is 10.

The Daily Grind: What's the one feature you can't live without?

Character customization is my big one! I stick with CoX despite all of its flaws (and there are quite a few of them, don't get me wrong) because it has an amazing character creator. Don't ever discount the amount of fun just having a character you love to look at from level 1 can bring to a game. Champions tried to go the same route, but I honestly think it was a step back from CoX. I just never felt a connection to any of my characters, they all looked goofy as hell. The faces felt very "off" as well.

Other than that, I would say the team invite blocker. We asked for it for years in CoX and finally got it. Can't tell you how satisfying it can be to sit there and watch a griefer's invite spam be blocked in the status log while you enjoy your day unphased.

Yeah, from my point of view that is going a bit too far, lol. I understand your point, you're really focusing on the immersion factor. Cryptic has made no attempt to hide that they were aiming for "fun first" which leads more down the arcade path than the sim style path, much to the chagrin of a lot of people. It really is a can of worms, I don't envy the developers.

Alot of the sim style things that people want help from a role playing perspective but hinder actual game playing (since they're obviously not tested in the current game environment). I think the bridges/ship interiors are going to be just that...a place to role play, if you're so inclined, but I don't expect them to introduce much of it into the actual game experience.

Anyways, I know it's not going to be perfect, no game ever is. Hopefully what we get will be enough to make both crowds happy.

Star Trek Online offers advanced retail programs

I'm a fan of this game, and I (thankfully) have the disposable income to do this, but I don't. I picked the one I like the best, and preordered one copy. Nothing against people who order 7 copies of the same game, but it seems like OCD to the max. Cryptic being Cryptic, they'll be in the cash shop anyways and you can save yourself 300 bucks.

The Daily Grind: Is it lonely in here, or is it just me?

Dec 7th 2009 10:14AM (Massively)
Yup, I second that sentiment. I'm a Justice server guy on CoX, and it's rather dead these days. But the old faithful are always around, no matter how many times I leave and resub. The awesome community is why that game is still kicking!

I really love this site, it has its own dedicated tab in firefox, but I can't help but agree. It's not a blanket thing at all, but a lot of times it just feels like a tidal wave of hype lol. I'm not one of those people that get upset when a game gets a lot of press here or anything, the more crap for me to read the better...i just wish it would refrain from the OMG GUISE JEBUS DIED FOR THIS GAME mentality.

Massively's Star Trek Online community Q&A: Ground combat

They've said in interviews that there are ground missions that allow you to combine forces with up to 2 other away teams...so 15 allies seems to be the cap.

lol good point...the dominion war actually did a pretty good job of doing this to the klingons...they mentioned at one point that it took them 10 years to recover their losses in ships and finances. That's quite a while when you've got replicators and asteroids to mine.
