Enter at Your Own Rift: How gold farming really hurts the economy
Aug 11th 2011 7:29AM (Massively)I disagree on the position you take where you say just perma ban them. The problem is people do use 3rd party sites, sometimes weeks or moths down the road those sites will take that credit card and buy 1,2 10 more accounts. They dont care if they get banned.
Sanctioning RMT and providing a safe way to do it, when you accept the fact that it cant be stopped ( again nobody can point out a single game to date that has).
I DO AGREE with you with your take on games killing their own economies. We might not agree on what to do about RMT but agree making the game worthless to play is not the answer. I also played rift and was disgusted by the crafting when I saw everyone could craft everything they needed with no effort. I thought why play?
Unfortunately games take this approach thinking if they make nothing valuable RMT will die. What they don't realize it also takes away from the game. Like you and I both agree when they give everything away there is no fun in it.
I think Blizzard is in the best position of any company out to know what is going on behind closed doors on RMT. When they decide to do what they did with diablo they didn't do it because it was the wrong move to do. They did it because they know exactly how much fraud/RMT etc goes on and this is the best way to deal with it for the betterment of all their players. Yes, the cry babies cry loud but they don't represent the majority any more and research proves it.

Aug 11th 2011 4:25AM (Massively)I can't think of one, yet everyone here against it says easy, just ban them, or easy just devote thousands of man hours to CSR and forget game updates and improvements.
People just don't get it, you can't stop it and you just laugh at the people who think you can. Blizzard has the figures, knows how much it is costing them and knows that by providing a safe environment to do so will cut down on every negative aspect RMT creates.
Personally I admire the passion of these lead game developers who deplore RMT and think they can stop it. On the other hand there is no way in heck from a business stand point would I want them running my game.
Blizzard has the numbers, knows how much they spend fighting it.... and know that it will be better for everyone doing for example what they are in diablo 3. The anti RMT is finally in the minority, all research points it out, they just cry a little louder. Again, I sympathize with their plight, but it isnt based in reality any more. Actually, it never was, but today it is more transparent.

Aug 10th 2011 4:33PM (Massively)RMT happens, spend resources fighting it, the credit card fraud, wasted csr time and hurting the fun of your in game and it spells game over. Diablo 3 has the right idea. There is no way to stop it. Better it is safe for everyone and those dollars can be spent on making the game better.
EverQuest II rolls out the battlegrounds
Jan 28th 2010 8:06AM (Massively)Anyways, I would argue they made it too easy and there is no challenge. Again, one thing it isn't is a grind anymore. Also, there are 2 SEPERATE servers that you can buy a toon or some starting cash cheaper then most worthwhile items in the quote " free to play " models.
EQ2 is one of the most polished, bug free, stable server games out with a ton of content. I personally, after 5 years am pretty wiped out as I have done most of the content and don't like everything handed to me for no effort. However, a new player would love the game as it is now.
In fact I hear almost daily from new players, " Wow this game is great I always heard horror stories, but this game is so deep and polished! " Have heard that a good 50 times personally. With the pricing deals and first month free, the game is a bargain. Then add to that getting a mid level toon for 5-10 dollars off the sanctioned 2 rmt servers or an end game toon for 20- 100.00 and you can pick and choose your reentry point based on your previous experience without any catching up.
The Daze of Darkfall week 4: The terror of Agon pt. 2
Aug 7th 2009 8:19PM (Massively)I am guessing the reason the graphics are not so intense is because the games that do have intense graphics don't handle 1000's of people all fighting in one small area.
For me I am very happy with the graphics for allowing the epic battles to take place.

Aug 7th 2009 8:17PM (Massively)Don't buy the game until you have looked at a ton of youtube videos, good or bad. In game footage will help you best determine if the game is for you. This will allow you to not pass up an amazing game because little 12 year old Timmy said the game suxorz :)
If you can't adapt, or like structure also be careful before buying, one game can't be for everyone.

Aug 7th 2009 8:06PM (Massively)People are asking for more stories like this if it is darkfall or
not, problem is you will not have these types of stories in other
games.
If you did similar stories in other games it would be mostly, we
fought standard x mob in x dungeon. Or we gathered gear from x mob
to go to x quest to kill x amount of mobs over and over to finish x
quest to get ready.
In darkfall the players make the game, the political map is always
changing. The landscape of who owns what cities, who is building
what and what bands of mercenaries are reaking havok on what areas is
constantly changing.
Lastly to say you have to afk etc to have fun is complete rubbish.
That is like saying in another mmo you must do x quest 2000 times in
order to have fun. Like someone else said it is what you make of it,
and many many many people like myself are having a blast every day.
Just as you pointed out in your article about the fire mage that
couldn't hit anything, even if that guy did a lot of grinding it
didn't help him one bit since he didn't know how to use it, right?
Another point about your article, you said you had a great time, but
lost weeks of work for 30 minutes of having a blast? Again, I am
sorry to disagree as anyone that has learned the game more in depth
knows it would only take tops 30 minutes to gather the resources to
have a crafter make some armor and a weapon for you.
Just admit you had a great time playing:) Don't be afraid of the
people that strangely have a strong hate of the game play of darkfall
but stay around lurking at every corner to bash a game with their
false remarks. Would think they would move on, sadly who these
people are are people that feel cheated by adventurine, got banned
for macroing, or just plain couldn't take a real pvp game.
You posted how 12 people gathered up and attacked your band of 6, you
died and still said it was great fun. The people here that constantly
bash the game are the same people that would have been crying how
unfair it was for those 12 people to team up against you.
If you like your hand held, and have a npc that tells you to go kill
x mob come back and repeat every day. If you like a structured game
where you go to a location and know you can expect it to be the same
every day. If you like not having to be aware of who and what is
around you, and knowing game mechanics will not allow anyone to harm
you, then you should probably play the 1000 mmo's out that follow
that cookie cutter thinking. Seriously, it isn't a put down it is
that just well, darkfall is not for you.
Darkfall is for people who can adapt. Darkfall is for people that
can take an hour to get use to a game system that probably isn't like
what you got use to.
I do have to give props to the writer of this article! Didn't come
in and give up after 10 minutes and not being at the end game
content. Didn't cry and moan because someone teamed up and ambushed
her/him while harvesting once etc...
Darkfall is a game that tons of people, including myself, are
currently having a blast playing. You get 2 camps of people in
darkfall chat, those that scream this is the best time they have had
in years playing an mmo and those who just scream at everything that
hurts them in game.
So and so killed me and took my stuff! The game is horrible!
So and so just came up behind me and killed me just after I killed a
monster and had little life left! The game is horrible!
You get the point...
Does darkfall have problems?
Heck yeah, little to no communication from the developers.
Having us buy the client AGAIN for NA release ( where a lot of the
people saying the game is bad, even though it is great, are coming
from )
A not so friendly new player experience.
A user interface that is not like the standard most mmo's and not the
best. ( Although some argue it is even better then other user
interfaces when you get accustomed to it )
I tell yah I have played every mmo out since the first day of ultima
online. Name it, I have played it. I can say even with the few
things I don't like about darkfall, it is by far the best and most
innovative game out that truly can and does deliver on mass pvp
battles. When I say mass pvp battles we are talking 10's to 10's of
hundreds at one time!
I would say the best way to get a feel for what darkfall is, is to go
look for yourself at the youtube videos of mass pvp. There are a few
good ones, take a look at a few.
Lastly, the negative points I listed above, all are being addressed
and are in the process of being fixed, changed or updated. The lack
of communication is one they haven't commented on... well because of
the lack of communication :) Talking weeks and weeks sometimes
without a word.
The Daze of Darkfall Week 3: Keep rollin', rollin', rollin', yeah pt. 2
Aug 1st 2009 8:49PM (Massively)How can anyone give this a 2/10 or even a 4/10 ? Just from this video alone it is UNLIKE ANY OTHER PVP MMO OUT.
The best PVP mmo available IMO.
Anti-Aliased: The Daze of Darkfall pt. 2
Jul 17th 2009 1:21PM (Massively)NOW,
I will 100% agree with some of the comments above, there isn't much at all in the way of quests.
People are pretty much allowed to do what they like in the game, just for example a country in the real world would, however, there are consequences. For example if some 8 year old is being a jerk and constantly griefing people eventually players get smart and get together to take care of it. There are a lot of jerks in the game like people said above. Actually that is another reason I like the game. Get some friends, a couple, a few hundred or whatever and take care of it.
An above poster mentioned no large scale PVP? That couldn't be farther from the truth. It is the only game out that can come close to handling 100 people on a screen close up and in the distance etc. If your computer/vid card can't handle it, that is more of player side problem. I played at the start of EU-1 and I still remember seeing my first huge battle 100's of people hacking slashing casting. On vent kept coming news of more and more huge guild amassing their troops to join in and boy did they, over the hill would come another 50 players riding mounts to add to the Mayhem.
This was 6 months ago and there have been many improvements to server stability. Those first weeks of the game and huge battles did come with some lagg, quite a few disconnects etc, but things are better now. I wouldn't advise getting the game if your system is an older system. I also wouldn't advise getting the game if you don't plan on playing on the server near you. Ping rates of over 200 will probably not be very good in huge battles or when split timing decisions are needed.
About Ping, I had about 230 on the EU server and the game was still enjoyable, but I am very looking forward to my 100 ping now in North America. The servers for NA are located on the west coast. Some examples are 30 ping in LA and 100-120 ping anywhere East coast.
Also another bad point about the company is their communication with players. For example they didn't say a word to the community until the minute the server launched from their first announcement. They also, again, charged players another 50.00 to buy the NA client after they had bought the EU client previously if they wanted to play NA release day one. I personally wasn't happy at all with that. Others were fuming and rightly so.
Lastly, that is another reason you will get people trying to spread false statement about this amazing game, they are mad and feel cheated for the above paragraph. It is constantly debated if other companies follow the same practice or not. ( I personally don't know ). Adventurine was extremely vague when they released the EU server, most of us figured we would just start up a new character on NA release with our existing account. If I had been properly informed I might have still purchased the game on EU release, but a huge amount wouldn't have ( Why they feel cheated ).
If anyone has a question on specifics of any part of the game, post and I will try to answer in an honest way.
Lastly! This game is not for everyone, especially if you are laid back or don't like an open system where the players make the laws in the game up pretty much. You are pretty safe in your home Cities:)
Anti-Aliased: The Daze of Darkfall pt. 2
Jul 16th 2009 11:05PM (Massively)In game you constantly read chat and raves by 95% of teh player base that can't get enough of how good the game is and how no other MMO delivers what Darkfall does.
If you want PVP in it's rawest form, go to drakfall and don't look back. If you are use to the hand holding that games like WOW and EQ2 have got you use to then by all means stick with those games.
I pretty much believe the writer of this review will most likely get turned off by any challenges he faces and give darkfall a bad review. Who can blame him, the masses want and demand easy mode and the game handed to them.
Let me put it this way, darkfall has a strong and extatic player base that raves in game how this is the best game that has come out in a long time. Why? Because ut doesn't hold your hand. If you get mad at someone you can exact your revenge, you don't have to worry about game mechanics getting in your way. This is real life in a virtual world!
95% of the players enjoy and have fun in darkfall. Those of us in game laugh constantly at the new guy that comes in and believes the game is unfair or just too damn hard. This can be blamed on the hand holding of every other MMO out today.
If 95% of the players are doing just fine and are enjoying the game and you find it too hard, take 2 steps back and think to yourself maybe you need to get out of your shell and step up to the challenge of Darkfall. Darkfall doesn't hold your hand, and give you stuff for free, you have to earn it! GASP!
If you are sick of the easy mode todays games are going and want a challenge, come join the players who llive and breathe darkfall!
If you want the ultimate freedom of no holds barred pvp you must check it out. No other game today even comes close.
That all being said, the game has a few downfalls, the stunt they pulled with making us pay for a new North American client was pretty much bs. You know what? If a game is that good that someone can kick you in the preverbial nut sack and you are still willing to pay them 50.00 to do it, they have something great going on.
Do NOT! Try darkfall if you can't adapt.
Do NOT! Try Dakfall if you like having your hand held and think hey if I help someone they shouldn't be able to stab me in the back.
Do NOT! Try Dakfall if you think a game is too hard for the first 5 minutes, you are special and the game is singling you out while the other 98% if the server adjusted and are having a blast.
Do NOT! Try darkfall if you like quest after quest telling you what to do, how to do it, and sends you across a map, kill 5 mobs come back, collect, rinse and repeat.
However, if you can adapt, like a world that pretty much let's you do what you want, just like the real world, then keep your eyes on this one.
DO NOT be fooled by reviews by people that can't handle adapting to a game or have grown up on hand holding PVP.
If you want freedom, love pvp, and want a game where effort ='s reward then check it out!
