The Daily Grind: Should stores pull game boxes for games that are no longer for sale?

Sep 27th 2011 4:52PM (Massively)
@KDolo

I'm not sure how it works where you are.

But i know for a fact that EBgames in australia(Gamestop). If they sell you a boxed copy of a game. It's automatically assumed to be opened even if you haven't left the store.

And do you wanna know reason number one for that. any game that doesn't come in a cardboard box, is generally taken out of the plastic case and put into a draw behind the counter. So the game has been opened before the sale has comenced.

and when it comes you cardboard boxes let's just say there are plenty of ways to open them without people knowing.

And no one should suffer a 60 dollar penalty, people wonder why pirates exist it's because when they go out and buy something on a whim. And get stung, they are increasingly less likely to do so again.

Problem is that most game stores keep these thing's on the shelf because they make the PC section actually looks like it exist's

The Daily Grind: What F2P game should offer a sub?

Sep 11th 2011 9:29PM (Massively)
@Bladerunner83

A) who they were founded by is irrelevant, You may as well go and say that runic are evil greedy bastards because they have people who founded blizzard north(maybe the reason all these people left is because they didn't like where blizzard was headed at the time)

B) Yeah B2P still means you need to buy an expansion to progress in content, but well it seems that most sub based MMO's do the same thing.

The most they ever add between expansion's are a couple of Raid's Which for all intensive purposes are generally the "Content" That should have been in the Expansion anyway.

Quick come buy our lich king expansion, oh right the lich isn't going to show up for 16 months. And using WoW as an example, my guess would be that of All it's sub fee's and expansion pack money, less than 25% of that is funneled back into the game.

It's not 1999 anymore server's don't have the expenses that they once had.

Older gamers more likely to drop money in cash shops to save time

@Skyydragonn

Just the same issue's with a slower leveling system.

infact with a slower leveling system it's even worse with some games.

Make it too long and you result in 2 thing's people with end game characters a less likely to roll alt's and when they do they are either Super relaxes and don't really care, or they power level the whole way to the end and ignore group content anyway.

Not to mention the high leveling curve is enough push some people out of the game as well. It also means that your creating huge amount's of content for the level grind section of the game. That will never be visited again unless they roll a new character.

Bigpoint says game publishers should sell in-game advantages

Sep 7th 2011 1:30PM (Massively)
@Jade Effect

Yeah well see he's saying advantage.

I would called Rested XP an Aide. It doesn't Make you stronger than anyone else it doesn't completely screw over the metagame because you have abilities and stats that are dependant on paying money.

increased XP gain's or storage Aide in the success of a player and their adventure's but at no point does the person recieve a combat advantage because of it.

To me advantage means that they have a superior force.

@JohnSGalt

It's Chicken or the Egg :D

If you give an advantage you have to balance it to make sure it's not an advantage. But you've just negated the advantage, so you need to give them a new one :(

The only advantage you could possibly give in a game like BF3 would be to say right we are going to let you give you 50k experience straight out of the gate.

BioWare delaying Star Wars: The Old Republic's European testing

@HiroProtagonist7

which is completely irrelevant to the discussion.

If i have to pay more money to play a beta that's my choice.

to not have the option isn't.

this isn't asking for servers to be set up so we can play or anything like that.

we are just asking for the chance to stick our heads in and have a go when the chance comes. which we probably wont get

I still don't get why game company's can't say right here's the game.

Now choose your language files.

no you need to download french, german and english :D

also curious why people have to download another 27GB client. Surely you have a patching system in place by now :(

The Daily Grind: Are you in favor of developer-sanctioned RMT?

Sep 7th 2011 2:50AM (Massively)
I have no problem with RMT, so long as they are between players.

But i still believe that some thing's should still require effort.

But it's hardly fair when in most MMO's advantage is given to those who have the most free time because they have the most money and the best flexibility to raid for the high end gear.

Half the reason that RMT exist's is because there is no way to allow someone who has 5 hours of game time a week to reasonably compete with someone who plays for 40-60 hours a week and can sit down and do a raid that takes 4 hours

And that's half the problem, if you don't give the grinder's something to grind for they get bored and leave. and if you can't allow the more casual player's to actually compete evenly with those doing grind they start looking for shortcut's.

Magically they work for most of the week so they have some disposable income that can be used to offset the time advantages that the people playing constantly have.

The Real problem with RMT though is it isn't going to stop hacking, it isn't going to stop botting. The only thing it does is prevent people getting scammed/(banned when the company catches them).

It's not really a solution to anything, in blizzards case it's well we want in on the cash it generate's.

Putting less emphasis on player traded currency's in combination with the ability to stay competitive without a gear treadmill is the way to go in my mind

Flameseeker Chronicles: The pros and cons of multiple guild membership

Sep 5th 2011 6:16PM (Massively)
To me it's just a step away from controlling Guild leaders.

in the past if you made friend's in your guild or whatever, and then suddenly the guild leader changed to a real monster, generally speaking it was harder to leave because you had attachments to other people

But it also provides another angle, after learning the hard way that my real life friends and my online friends simply dont mix(seems to lead to a lot of fighting :( ) This allows me to satisfy Real life friends by playing with them now and then while still maintaining full contact with the people i have been playing with for years.

Not to mention that if someone has a month of for holidays and want's to get really heavy into dungeon running with their free time they don't have to leave for a month to do so.

The Daily Grind: How do you deal with extended downtimes?

Sep 5th 2011 10:54AM (Massively)
Easy sleep.

if i was playing my video games and the internet or even worse the power goes out most likely not gonna be very productive, so ill skip downtime.

can't do uni work since i need the internet's or power to actually do things properly
