Its not that fact that if someone really wants to find you they can. For me its the fact that if I post on the forums for any reason, I now have openned up a whole new demographic that can search my name. Yes nothing is private anymore. But do I want millions more to have access to my name? Not really.
I have not posted in years but when i do it is on the tech help forums. So now what is my option? Not post? Put a ticket in (if logging on is not a issue)? Email and wait days for a responce, or call and wait for hours? Sounds like a great new system.
And last point. How far will they go? next they will announce that your real name will be displayed in game.
You are assuming it will only be $5 a month. I am sure it will be $15 a month since they have seen with other games people are willing to pay that.
Also he is probably talking about console games since Activision, other then Blizzard could really careless about the PC market. So $60 for the box, $180 a year and if you are on Xbox its like $50 a year for Xbox live. So its like the price of 4 games for a couple of new maps every other month.
Nothing wrong when a company wants to make money. But when that same company pretty much wants to ring every last penny from you then its a problem. Its like when they had Divix DvDs back in the day. You paid for it then had like 5 views of it before you had to pay again to unlock the movie a second time. We saw how that worked out. These companies have to realize we are not ATM's anymore. The days of just putting everything on credit is over.
Back in BC I believe like less then 10% of the player base even saw BT much less SW. So if you look at the economics of it all they had to make the change in Wrath. If out of 10million only 1million is seeing content you run the risk of losing the 9million who are tired of sitting around cities and doing 5mans.
So blizz did the only thing that made sence to their wallets. Made the decision to open up the end content to the 9million paying clients. Honestly it makes more sence to piss of the 1million then the 9 million. I knew alot of people in BC that quit after getting stuck on Mag or one of the other instances other then Kara.
When Cryptic made their deal with Atari they promised them they can come out with a mmo every 18 months. And that is what they are doing, finished or not. So to get funding they had to promise big things. Dont get me wrong I am not a fan of Cryptic but Atari is partly to blaim also.
Now if CO went to a F2P I would come back to the game. I am not going back as a monthly fee payer. I did not get sucked into the STO hype and I wont do it for their 3rd one also unless its F2P.
Most of your statement does not even make sense. First the guy you are responding to never said if he is still playing, never played or has stopped playing. So since you have no idea what time he has put into the game you can't come down on him for not having a accurate assesment of the game.
Second no one ever lies on Twitter right? Remember this is still a business and EA and trying to get the last dollar it can out of this game before it dies. So you dont think the people twittering info wont say anything bad. Not good business if you tweet, "Working on nothing and I am looking though the want ads for a new job" Would kind of make people cancel.
And lastly if you only read the novels how would you know what the state of the game is or that its the best PvP MMO out there. Nothing wrong with being a fanboy of a game. Sorry to see a game you love dieing. I work in the entertainment business and I always hate hearing when studios fail. I have been in one of those situations and it sucks. Good luck tot he people of Mythic.
A Cryptic game is like buying a burger. Except you only get the meat patty and the cheese. You have to wait 2 more months for the Bun, because its not done yet and the place you ordered it from needs the money now.
If people like Beau are willing to accept mediocrity and this type of business practice then more power to you. Some of us would like the whole burger when we order it.
A couple of years back my guild had a raider that was serving in Iraq. Sometimes during raids he would yell in TS that they were under attack and have to leave. Luckly he always came back online like a hour later. Even thanked us when he got back state side for keeping him sane during his time there. I also raided with other service men stationed in Japan and Korea.
So it was great that Mr French and his team found a way to help bring their men closer to home in Iraq.
Dont blaim Blizz for your choice of a ex husband. If he is that dangerous and you are affraid then why are you still on the same server and have the same name he knows about. Not hard to track you now even without the armory feature. I mean if I had a stalker ex wife that wanted to kill me I would take steps to ensure she does not find me. Not blaim a company for having to "protect" me.
Its whats wrong with the world today. Everyones a victim. I am glad for this feature. Some guy tried to get into my roommates guild last week who had ninja'ed a item a few weeks before. He changed his name and reappted to the guild. only way my friend knew who it was because he had him on his friends list, and when he changed his name the name changed ont he friends list also. So i think this is a great idea.
You got that wrong Ash. Vivendi Universal was Blizzards backer and then they merged with Activision. Not sure why this other guy its ranting about them. My is guess he used to work for Blizz and got canned maybe. Seems pretty bitter for someone that just played the game.
