The Mog Log: The trial of Chains of Promathia, part one

Jun 5th 2010 6:20PM (Massively)
Was one of the first on my server to get sea, I remember first setting foot in sea, never having seen a picture before experiencing it for the first time. There was no information, we had to figure things out, like that aern that gave the 'myserious feeling' message or whatever (it's been like 3-4 years...give me a break) and figuring out how to spawn jailers. Also being the first on the server to take down all the jailers was a great feeling too, my linkshell basically ruled the end game scene.

That having been said, without a linkshell doing CoP would have been much harder, without skilled players you were almost certain to fail. Having high caliber players made CoP a bit 'easier' but that is not to detract away from any of the challenge it presented.

I played on Lakshmi and was in the Fallen Angels, you might remember the name, but we no longer exist. We dominated Lakshmi for years, kept Fafnir in NA time for like a year and a half 3-6pm EST every day by sitting and waiting to kill at 6pm everyday. We were also the first to kill the three wyrms and obtain their loot, back when you 'staight-tanked' Tiamat with PLD/WARs...and rotated Aerial Armor with your WHM/SMN healers, yeah we did it like that and it was how things were done before /NIN rose up.

Very nostalgic post but I'll end it with this, being able to achieve these very hard feats as a group was probably what made FFXI so rewarding for me. Without the difficulty the game would have been so HORRIBLE, but part of the joy for me was being the 'first' and people being literally amazed when they saw my gear or heard of my exploits. With all the things they're doing to make it easier, it makes me glad I played when the game was at it's peak, you can really tell it's dieing now.

Dynamis Lord? Welcome to 2006, seriously.

Massively's mystery beta key giveaway

Mystery Beta ftw.

LOVE open beta is now live

Jan 7th 2010 6:42PM (Massively)
I bought a alpha voucher which was supposed to have automatic beta access, but I was unable to log in. He doesn't respond to his emails either. I was all about this game but it's really just a scam at this point when he's charging for game time like this and not even providing support for those who did pay but are unable to play.

Sorry.

Final Fantasy XIV gameplay and emote footage

Aug 19th 2009 6:27PM (Massively)
That is not a teleport spell cast by the little guy it's the end of the guild leave which prompts an automatic teleport to your home city where upon you receive your rewards and are back at the aetherite crystal.

People complaining that SE should have released better footage:

SE didn't intend for any of this to leak, you are lucky you have anything. This was intended for people at gamescom to simply try the game out and get them talking about it, they had a strict no camera policy but people were managing to sneak stuff out with them. There are 3 demos, all are guild leaves, one is chasing rats, one is killing 3 puks and the last is killing dodos.

For a leak of this type, I'm enthused at anything and complaining about this and that is just stupid, especially considering this is an alpha build that was simply for demo purposes.

The Daily Grind: What license would you like to see as an MMO?

Here's another vote for a Pokemon MMO.

The Daily Grind: Are you tired of the "Holy Trinity" yet?

Jul 27th 2009 2:26PM (Massively)
This guy gets it.

The whole point is that the trinity only exists because of a very limited scope of combat we are so used to being forced into we accept it as an inevitability. The fact of the matter is that with multiple monsters and a intelligent AI, the roles fall apart. A 'tank' class cannot simply stand still and 'taunt' a mob, the mob will move and attack intelligently. There, your 'holy trinity' is broken, and it wasn't even that difficult.

I long for a system to break these roles because they're stagnant and only really hurt any class which isn't the best in those roles. Why take a 2nd rate healer/tank/dps when you have the option to pick up the theoretically most powerful healer/tank/dps.

If instead you simply had to react and actively adapt to a combat situation, every class could have a unique style of play while working towards an end goal.

The Daily Grind: Should you be able to choose your class after rolling a toon?

Right, because they have subscribers it means their game is perfect and nothing is flawed.

You're still being dense.

There is no reason not to have a sort of class changing functionality, the only reason not to is simply because they didn't consider it and implementation after the fact would be burdensome. Your argument is so weak it's laughable.

The Daily Grind: Should you be able to choose your class after rolling a toon?

Jul 23rd 2009 12:24AM (Massively)
Amana stop being dense.

Being forced to reroll is a design flaw, not being forced is good design. Arguing that users should be accepting of having to 'reroll' an 'alt' is the most asinine of arguments. You're fighting an uphill battle, stop while you're ahead. You're in the minority.
