EVE Online seems to be doing quite well...

The Daily Grind: Why don't you like PvP?

Jan 5th 2011 2:08PM (Massively)
PvE is pointless and unenjoyable for the most part. The story for the vast majority of MMOs are uninteresting. The combat is dull and unengaging. If you've read the responses here, you'll see countless times players citing "relaxation" as their reason for eschewing PvP. I think the word they are really looking for is "passivity". PvE players want something they can only be marginally engaged in, and passively entertain themselves.

If the latest raid on Naxx in WoW became easier tommorrow, there would be virtually noone complaining. If Darfkall, EVE, or WAR had a surge in players for the opposing side(s), the complaints would be far less pronounced than the cheers.

PvP provides real competition, and a thinking opponent who won't respond based on a script. In the end, PvE is the same thing, and has a limited supply of entertainment, and that time-frame shrank with the expansion of the internet and boss-guides.

Humerously enough, this is exactly what I feel about PvE. In the end, what am I doing this for? PvE games by their nature need to keep raising the ceiling for me to continue to obtain accomplishment out of them, because I have nothing to pit myself against as an actual challenge once I've finished an encounter. The idea of "farming" raids is one of the worst concept applied to MMOs I have ever seen.

Who says it's a problem?

PvE players will be forced to pay actual attention to the game world around them. Not being involved in PvP is as simple as not flagging, and not interacting with anyone who is flagged. You see a red name? Don't spam your AoE willy-nilly. See a green name? Don't heal/buff/assist/whatever them. So while the PvE game may have a dash of PvP in it, the PvP game is potentially completely denied, even on PvP servers.

@mxt4347564czjv00q9w9qb1tppfr46hb The game is far more heavily PvE than PvP from what I've seen so far. Even on the PvP servers, you're completely free from harm (if you choose) for the first 20 or so levels! Maybe warfronts will be strong, and maybe actual open world PvP becomes a significant factor later on, but so far, it's PvE with a very small side of PvP.

Waging WAR: Finding the sandbox

Sep 7th 2010 8:29AM (Massively)
I have to say, the title seems misapplied here. You're looking for player created content, the hallmark of the sandbox, but you're looking for it in the PvE aspect of a PvP based game. That seems misdirected at least.

That said, there are a TON of things to find in game, and unlocks to get that don't require just grinding on the same type of NPC for 100,000 kills. Have you found all three plungers? There is adequate amounts of side activities to chase after if PvP has you bored, it won't be great, it won't be amazing, but it will be available and there.

Try shaking up your PvP routine by playing it differently, and give it serious effort. If all you do is zerg-roll keeps and hit the city, try solo-ganking or running with a small group. If all you do is scenarios, try hitting some ORvR. Most servers set up duels and it's not hard to find organized team events either, hit up the forums and ask around about them.

Play Champions Online for a week without paying a dime

I'll probably go back and give it a run. If they improved the rubberbanding that has been an ever-present problem, even 6-7 months after launch, it could be fun. The new game packs look semi interesting also, though I think only one has launched for the game, and the other is incoming.

Waging WAR: RvR packs, the "wait and see" edition

Aug 30th 2010 8:42AM (Massively)
@Deadalon

Noone can counter any of your arguments, because nothing you say has any basis in factual reality.

From your posts on this very article:

"So... there are gonna be 3 packs .... each costing like 25-40 USD...offering alot less than an expansion back...DLC needs CONTENT - These packs are not offering anything in terms of content... just RR ranks.. items...you have to pay 50-70 USD by the looks of it..."

"... they dont even have the coders to do that... The truth is that they are not gonna spend the money...look at the agains all odds video and see how bad it really is..."

So, not only do you know how well staffed the company is, you know how it works internally, and you also know exactly how the packs are going to be priced before any details have even been announced. I'm sure all of this is factual data you can backup and not just mere supposition on your part, or hyperbole used to strengthen your claim. And given that surety, I await your revelation of information to the masses so you can asauge their concerns.
