Exclusive Zentia contest information and more

Dec 3rd 2010 10:53PM (Massively)
@Pingles No offense but it hasn't been mostly voluntary.

I was in a guild that was being bullied by the top guild on Tortoise. They hung outside towns, killing us non stop if we tried to leave. They wouldn't stop. It wasn't fun, tons of people left the guild.

They also sell items in the Cash Shop so you can prevent PvP - for that login only. I blew a lot of money on those items in order to play in peace, but finally said "Forget it, I'm not spending money non stop just so I can't be killed anymore." and left.

I like the game a lot, I just have no interest in being bullied in PvP again.

Would they stop attacking me if I left that guild? Sure, but I don't like being bullied and pushed around.

Steampunk MMO ARGO Online launches teaser site

Dec 2nd 2010 1:07PM (Massively)
No NeoSteam isn't dead. And it's name popped into my head when they said there were no other Steampunk MMOs to name. I thought "They can't seriously not know about Neo Steam?"

Remnants of Skystone is also one, tho on a different scale, it's still a steampunk MMORPG.

Allods is part steampunk, guess that doesn't count?

Divine Souls is claiming it's steampunk some places, haven't seen enough of it to know.

The Game Archaeologist and the Nights of Old Winter

"From 1998 through 1993, Gold Box RPGs (so-called for their distinctive gold packaging) gave PC RPGs a huge boost in credibility and sales."

From 1998 through 1993? Are you living backwards through time or something?

Ablegamers releases shopping list for disabled players

Nov 22nd 2010 2:54AM (Massively)
This is really awesome. God forbid if something happened where I was no longer able to play games with normal controllers, I'd be so happy and thankful that somebody out there was helping create things that let me play too.

Gaming is a huge part of helping with depression under certain situations too. This really helps bring happiness to some people who actually deserve it (to think of what most people complain about, the littlest things, they don't compare to what disabled people go through on a daily basis).

Cheers for making this stuff, and thanks to Massively for pointing it out!

Archlord preparing to launch new Dragon Scion race

Nov 18th 2010 8:50PM (Massively)
I've found some of them to still be fun, but I roll my eyes and try them out *despite* the stupid half naked girls. I read the title about a new race, I think "It could be cool" - then I see the picture of the new race, and of course it's a girl with giant boobs in lingerie, and it's like *groan* give me a break...

The Daily Grind: What games are you shocked to find still running?

Nov 18th 2010 10:42AM (Massively)
Nexus: Kingdom of the Winds. One of the first net games from Korea - it was released close to the same time Ultima Online was. It's been going here for 12 years now. It was run by the original Nexon US branch, which was a super small company and then changed to Kru Interactive when another studio was to become the US branch of Nexon.

Anyway it's been running for 12 years in the US (14 years in Korea - actually out before Ultima Online there) and I'm pretty amazed it's still around.

Final Fantasy XIV players get another free month of playtime

Nov 16th 2010 8:54PM (Massively)
This is one of the only things they can do to try not to die a horrible early death. Right now most players are not planning on continuing to subscribe. And we aren't ever going to come pay them again to play again. They will lose the majority of people who purchased the game. The only way they may be able to save some of them is if they fix it enough to get some people to keep their subscriptions. The thing is the fix has to come while we're still here, and a good percentage of people are going to quit for good after their initial free time runs out. So it's a smart move on their part, but I really don't see the game getting THAT much changed in a few months. Maybe if they give us 6 months free, it may be better in 6 months (really I couldn't care how much time they give us free, I still am not going to play it. There's just so much wrong with it I can't see it being fixed up enough to be fun to play, and with so many other games out there that are actually fun, it's just a waste of time to play this one).

Soul Master closing down for redesign, scheduled to return in 2011

Nov 15th 2010 10:31PM (Massively)
What made this game good was it was less like your typical MMO and something quite different. They are taking it down to make it more like your typical MMO progression? Great, I love that *extreme sarcasm*.

I just didn't like their item shop. I kept waiting for things I wanted to buy, and they really didn't have much interesting or that helpful to purchase. I always support games I like with money, but with this one I kept waiting and thinking that there would have to be some cool stuff, costumes, hair changes, anything coming out that I like in the Cash Shop but it just didn't seem to happen.

I hope it really does come back, and it really does end up better (at least in the Cash Shop area). Really FFXIV should look at this and say "Oh look, you can shut it down to re-work it!" but no, FFXIV wants us to hang in there and keep paying them monthly fees while they try to make their horrible excuse for a game fun over the next few years. Fat chance Square...

But anyway, I hope this one really comes back, this one was one of the few I actually kept installed when I was changing others around just because of how different it was. If they follow this same different path I think it will continue to get better. If they are just making it more like a normal MMO, I really don't know if I'll be able to get back into it again.

The Daily Grind: Do you want elaborate lore?

Nov 14th 2010 4:23PM (Massively)
When done right, I love it. The story is a big part of the game. If a game does things right, I'll read and enjoy every last word written and it really brings the level of fun up. However years of badly translated Asian MMOs have often made me skip a lot of text in many games.

Despite it's problems, I thought Allods had a good translation and I read everything they had for quest text. I also read all of the text for Zentia - it's really got so much done right and has a lot to the story and reasoning behind a lot of things.

One thing that always annoys me is that no matter what game it is, no matter how important what I'm doing is, there is always someone who wants me to both pick flowers for him to give to a girl, and then deliver them too. As one who likes to complete everything, I always do it, but it's begrudgingly done and I'm always rolling my eyes as I do it. Personally if I got to help design an MMO, I'd do a tongue in cheek version of the flower picking quest :D One you'd groan when you started, but ended up being very different than it appeared.

Warrior Epic closes its doors

Nov 14th 2010 4:13PM (Massively)
I don't get it, is Warrior Epic closing down, or is just the ijji service portal of it going away? The title says it's closing, but the article looks like only ijji is stopping their service and the main Warrior Epic is still here?

Not that I'd care a lot. When playing it the game had potential, but too much done wrong. So much in fact that I just kept hoping it would change a lot and I had no interest in playing it until it did (which it didn't that much, at least in the areas I thought would make it interesting). I don't mind a little dumbing down of MMOs - that is when I have an inventory full of 200 different items all useful in different ways, but this one was way too dumbed down and simplified for me.

Here's hoping not too much of this game is imported into Faxion.
