Sony Online Entertainment offers an updated ProSiebenSat.1 FAQ

Apr 1st 2012 7:54PM (Massively)
I finally ended my relationship with SoE over this. Selling off an entire continent worth of their long standing customers has got to count as one of the most disgusting business moves *ever* within the MMO industry.

If this was for new IP (e.g. EQNext/Planetside 2) I think that most people, while unhappy, would have accepted the reasoning but for existing customers...no. Simply no.

SoE must be able to see the damage this move has caused which suggests that things are either out of their hands due to manoeuvrings within their parent company, or they took such a major hit with DCUO that they need a big cash injection more than they need customers. In either case, it wont surprise me to hear that they are in trouble when their next releases tank, because, lets face it - you don't p*** off large elements of your core fanbase like this and stay in business.

SOE answers Vanguard free-to-play questions

Firstly, just let me ask, why must I type my email address in FIVE TIMES to reset my password. As a usability consultant I have to say that is probably THE single worst password reset work flow I've encountered.....grrrrr.

Anyways, Vanguard was very good but the lack of high level content was as obvious as AoC. Did they ever do anything about that? If so, it might just be worth dragging my 47 war upto 50...

Choose My Adventure: Singing the skill grind blues

Tried the game due to this diary - I'm actually impressed with it but I do see the problems....and not many of those problems are down to it being a PvP game; much more to having tried to do so much on a limited budget.

Worse bit for me in my 5 days playing....not being able to get into my new guilds city because no-one was there to let me in!! lol

Get Champions Online at a discount for a week

I don't know if there's any copies left but play had it on sale for £1.99 a few weeks ago. I got 2 copies and played it for a few weeks as did my son (sadly never on-line at the same time bah) before we both moved on (loving LOCO atm btw).

Its NOT a bad game, what it is though is CoH with some ideas ripped from other games (notably warhammer on-line) and a really boring grind from about lvl 15. Seriously, half the problem with most MMOs now is they bring nothing new to the table apart from a reskin of the setting/theme. Pah, worth £1.99 though :)

Sadly the BIG problem for EQ going F2P is that a large proportion of the player base play 2 or more accounts. I went back to my guild a while back and there were 36 chars on...played by 6 people :(

If they opened up a new F2P server though I'd certainly dip my toe once in a while.

Well I swore "no-way" after AoC but this is different enough to have me excited (I'm another one of those who have had an overdose of fantasy MMOs). It will probably suck but I'll be trying it out on launch day as long as there are enough favourable comments from beta players.

Champions Online looks to its one-year anniversary and beyond

play.com in the UK has the game for sale at £1.99, well worth it for the 30 free days to try out. I really enjoyed the first 15 levels but then it started to drag into a grindfiest....and I realised I was just play CoH Mk II and the devs really hadn't learned very much.

There's still fun to be had with the game (zombie PvP! cool) but with CoH and DCU out I see champions as being the game that will suffer the most.

EVE Evolved: Exploration -- The basics

Oh I should also have said, informative article :)

EVE Evolved: Exploration -- The basics

Jul 4th 2010 7:26PM (Massively)
Interesting timing since I returned to Eve under the 5 day free offer this week and thought I would try and scanning and work through the exploration missions. It reminded me EXACTLY why I didnt go back to Eve. I got to grips with the basics of scanning quickly enough and the first anomaly mission was fine but then I moved on to the scan probe missions. The very first one I would constantly get 99.99% on the gravametric training site...but could never get 100%....and then it would DISAPPEAR and no amount of scanning would bring it back (although after relogging a few hours later they were back....at 99.99%...ohhh and then vanished again).

Perhaps if the tutorial didnt actually get closed because of another tutorial constantly springing open I would have got further, however it was just an excercise in frustration. I know theres a great game in Eve but my god, it shouldnt be neccessary to work so hard through what are essentially bugs (although usability issues might be closer to the truth) THIS late in the games development.
