The Daily Grind: Where does gaming fall on your priority list?

Feb 10th 2012 8:20AM (Massively)
I'm single, which helps, but as a career-geek I certainly find I typically don't have time for any substantial game playing (anything more involved than, say, Triple Town on my phone) outside of the weekend.

Frequently amazed at the amount of time others find for gaming!

@(Unverified) Seed. First month went really badly for Seed.

Someone's off ArenaNet's xmas card list..

Anti-Aliased: Don't hate the playa, hate the developa pt. 2

On the other hand, I'm frequently amazed so many game companies go "Hey, this World of Warcraft thing looks like a good idea, lets do that next...", with seemingly little understanding that an MMO is substantially more complex than a single (or even small-scale multiplayer) game.

Cataclysm collector's edition revealed

Surprised at the hate for this CE. Maybe it's just me that likes a good art book.

So, what did people want to see? Figurine? More in-game stuff? Serious question.

As for digital... maybe the digital editions are less of a joke in the US, but let me take a random example of Civilization V: http://www.direct2drive.co.uk/9620/product/Buy-Sid-Meier%E2%80%99s-Civilization-V-Digital-Deluxe-Edition-Download

For £15 (60%) over the standard edition cost from Amazon ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Take-2-Sid-Meiers-Civilization/dp/B003ELORWE/ ) I get a bonus civilization, a behind the scenes video, and the soundtrack.

Analysis: What happened to Realtime Worlds?

jgramm25, like management at Realtime Worlds, you appear to have confused Photoshop and computer games. If I'm going to play a game, it's going to be because there's a game in the middle.

Fahy vs Linden Lab: No case to answer?

Apr 15th 2010 7:27AM (Massively)
Even if it was copyrightable, the idea of how this works is so fundamental to streaming of any form of content, that I would be surprised if LL can't trivially find examples dating back to the 90s, and back to the 80s/70s if they look hard enough.

Someone with more patience/an interest in history than me might want to look through the MUD-Dev archives ( http://www.raphkoster.com/2007/02/02/full-mud-dev-archive-for-download/ ) to see if they can find examples of this sort of idea being used on MUDs (I know a few attempts were made to make MUDs that modelled 3D spaces rather than isolated rooms).

Second Life 2.0 goes live today

Oh good grief.

Even as one of the people who quite likes viewer 2, I don't think this is going to end well. Most advanced users hate it... the color scheme is too low contrast, half the options we need have disappeared ("Build" button, this means you), the lack of textual labels on the right hand side (I've been using it for a month, and still get confused)...

Upside; can toast marshmallows on flames...

Which Linden (behind the scenes techy type) has left the lab too: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Which_Linden/Office_Hours/2010_March_18

Hadn't realised Infinity left. They'll be missed, although in retrospect not too surprised with the way the lab is re-arranging (not convinced it's a good re-arrangement, though)...

Anti-Aliased: Eye candy leaves a bad taste in my mouth pt. 2

Feb 18th 2010 5:43PM (Massively)
While I'd be fairly annoyed if (as some games do) it didn't work at all with multiple monitors, as long as I can get it to produce some meaningful output on a single monitor irrespective of whatever else is plugged in, I don't see the issue...

Love my multi-monitors, but even just dual-screen is a rare setup, let alone Eyefinity & co.
