New WAR40K trailer introduces first playable race

I don't care what they do, so long as I have to EARN my Black Carapace, I'll pay them in gold ingots every month to play this game.

The Daily Grind: Bow to the RNG

Aug 20th 2010 11:28AM (Massively)
I ran Sethekk Halls Heroic once a day, every day for three months. I wanted Terokk's Shadowstaff ( http://www.wowarmory.com/item-info.xml?i=29355 ) so badly that it became a guild joke. My guild got sick of running the instance with me. My best friends got sick of running the instance with me. I had called in every last favor I was owed in exchange for daily groups through Sethekk Halls Heroic. It got to the point that I could not even PUG the dungeon any more because people knew I would be online and looking for a group for it.

It's not that the dungeon was difficult. In fact, most groups I went with absolutely smashed it apart with little effort.

But alas, my Terokk's Shadowstaff was just never meant to be.

CURSE YOU, LORD GYGAX, KING OF DICE!

Gamescom 2010: Reakktor releases new Black Prophecy trailer

@Unknown

Yep. I don't buy into item-shop or MT business models. I believe they exclude the more frugal players and focus development in the wrong areas.

Warhammer Online drops 1.3.6 today

Aug 17th 2010 4:18PM (Massively)
It gets added as soon as the necessary numbers are in the zone. I believe the minimum required players must be 6 from each side for the AOA to kick in. After that, the modifier is automatically updated as the population in the zone increases or decreases for each side.

Very much like the current Field of Glory buff.

Also,
@Jade -
On the server I play on (Iron Rock), there are epic battles to be found all day long, any time of the day, day or night. Often, both sides are fielding at least two warbands or more.

The item shop was the deal breaker for me. When this game was first announced I was stoked. And then they announced the item shop, and that it's most prominent use would be ship modules and upgrades. After that, I deleted my Black Prophecy bookmarks and stopped following the development.

I wish they had chosen a P2P model instead.

Oh well. There's still SW:ToR, I guess.

Waging WAR: Gamescom and Mythic's anti-hype

Aug 14th 2010 11:41PM (Massively)
And another thought -- To any and ALL naysayers about Mythic not having resources ...

May I kindly refer you to the recent expansions released for both UO and DoAC. They're releasing expansions for games with 1/10th of the population of WAR. Seriously... the only thing wrong here is the heresay and ridiculously uninformed general public and its constant bad-mouthing of a game they've never played for more than a month or two, probably not even since launch, or shortly after.

Take your bad-mouthing elsewhere, or go play the game and stop lying about things you know nothing about.

@Carson -- If you've seen the game in Tier 4, you would know that the population is more than healthy enough to sustain the game and its GROWTH and EXPANSION for many years to come. If Funcom can do it for AoC, then BioWare/Mythic can certainly do it for WAR.

As a great wise man once said:

"Those who say it can't be done should stay out of the way of those who are doing it."

In an effort to stay on topic, I would be absolutely THRILLED if Mythic announced a paid expansion at Gamescom.

@Havoc, Carson

Clearly, neither of you two have seen the game past tier one.

Massively's Community Detective, Issue #4: Warhammer Online [Updated]

Aug 11th 2010 1:29PM (Massively)
As a member of the community in WAR, I would also like to offer a quick bit of friendly help regarding the gold spam in the /advice channel. It is well known, and we all hate it, but there are two very easy solutions.

1) When you log in, you can opt to selectively ignore the spammers by right clicking their names in the chat window and selecting "ignore". This will only deal with the situation temporarily (sadly enough) but may also give you some fun tome unlocks as well.

2) Simply type /adleave. This will leave the advice channel altogether. And while this forces you to seek out the community in more traditional channels such as /1 and /t1 ('region' and 'realm war tier 1', respectively) your experience with gold spam will come to a complete, utter, and abrupt halt.

Hope this helps.

Hyperspace Beacon: Forced species

Aug 11th 2010 12:55PM (Massively)
Agreed.

BioWare is taking the simple path to cut corners and time from development. The trouble with truly non-human avatars is in the animation. Creating animation keyframes for only one single base "race" and simply re-skinning the meshes provides for the most efficient method of delivering some sense of customizability and individuality while at the same time keeping things simple and straight forward from a developer's perspective.

Imagine if they had to create keyframe animations for not only simple and basic things like walking, and hand gestures during conversation, but also, unique animations per race for every possible action a character could perform. It isn't unreasonable to think that a Wookiee would swing a sabre differently from the tentacle-avoiding technique of a Twi'lek, for example. However, the races BioWare is releasing with SW:ToR would seem as though their sabre techniques (and thus, the related animations) would be fairly standard among them.

Save time developing, save money developing, and they can obfuscate this TRUE reason with something lore or story based, like, for example -- these are english speaking races, that's why we included them, yeah, yeah, that's why, yeah. Because we couldn't find actors that speak Wookiee. Yeah. /nod /nod.
