OnLive ditching monthly charge, goes free; MicroConsole in manufacturing

Oct 4th 2010 4:26PM (Joystiq)
My prediction:
People will now use it for free demos, but will still refuse to buy anything.

I'm still not seeing how they're going to make back all that initial investment money.

Cryptic reveals Star Trek Online event calendar

Chris, I'd actually say wait until the beginning of summer. The game should be $20 by then, with a high chance of a $10 sale (just like CO). I think there's enough game in there to justify $10. And you WILL finish all of the content before your free month is up (content being any non procedurally generated grinds).

I look forward to buying this when it drops down to $30 within 6 months.

Going with GA, because it's a fun game, but it won't last long ( a la Planetside). 6 months down the line, Mass Effect 2 will be the same game, if not better, and probably at half the price. Won't deny that ME2 is a better game, though.

Anti-Aliased: One massive agenda pt. 2

Jan 15th 2010 3:11PM (Massively)
All of you arguing against GA as an MMO need to look at a game like Champions. How "massive" is this? Other than public quests, you rarely interact with more than 3 people at a time. And even DURING public quests, you don't even get up to 20 people like a 10v10 match would.

Is it massive because CO allows 60 players in a zone? By that definition, GA is also massive because it allows tons of players in dome city at the same time. All of you arguing with numbers should apply your arguments to traditional MMOs and see how they fail.

The Daily Grind: What kills your confidence in a game before you play it?

Nov 2nd 2009 12:00PM (Massively)
I actually stay away from any game that has the holy trinity. I've already played that game 10 times before. CO had problems, but the group makeup was not part of it. The grouping interface was stupid, but even then, it was still faster to get a group because you just needed 3-5 people, not any specific makeup. CO's problem was lack of content and power balancing. It was fun for the first month, and then you ran out of content and had your characters nerfed.

But really, any game where you are "looking for healer" or "looking for tank" for 20 minutes? No thank you.

Anti-Aionsed: This time I put the joke of the title before the colon pt. 2

Completely agree with you Colin. I pre-ordered, got into the closed beta and walked away disappointed. No matter what side you play, you get the same generic OMG YOU ARE THE HERO cutscene. The game is highly polished, like you said, but it's so, so been done before.

People look forward to the Abyss, but it'll be nothing more than zerg parties like Warhammer, with some 3rd-party NPCs thrown in.

I bought CO instead, but am also not playing after the first month. The difference is: Aion is highly polished with no soul. CO is soulful with no polish.

Oh well, maybe SW:TOR will fix this.

Join us at Champions Online's launch

Maybe I'll join you guys on a fourth alt ;)

Hopefully they'll have a few more fixes in by launch. Headstart has been fun, but there are still broken PQs and the like that have been annoying.
