EVE Online announces an impending Inferno

@Portal8229 Meh, just go play a different game. EVE is obviously not what you're looking for.

RIFT introduces 3-month, 6-month, and yearly subscription plans

@Dril Yeah, preorders had the option for multi-month subscriptions at a discounted rate and they had to be subbed continually to retain them. Looks like everyone is getting the same rates now.

Setting the record straight: Massively's interview with Pando Networks

@Scuffles It was an issue finding a legit torrent because LoL simply didn't provide one. Occasionally someone would link to one that they got from a support person, but those links were taken off the official forums rather quickly.

Uninstalling was as simple as running the uninstaller. There was no trickery involved.

As for morons using the internet, I'm not even slightly sympathetic. If you install a new program and don't look at what kind of configuration can be done, you're doing yourself a disservice. It was quite obvious to me how to limit the upload speed with PMB, because I opened the config and looked. Not hard.

You don't need a computer science degree to handle a torrent. If you're irresponsible about understanding what the f*** you're doing on the computer, chances are PMB is the least of your worries.

Setting the record straight: Massively's interview with Pando Networks

Last time I used PMB was to install League of Legends. I don't recall having any problems with it, and it was significantly easier than trying to find a legit torrent of a current game client which I tried first. As far as configuration options, they were basic but appeared to be satisfactory enough. I still uninstalled PMB when I finished the download, which is probably due to unjust paranoia over their past reputation.

5 years ago, PMB was terrible. I recall having issues removing it from my system, hell, it might still be on my XP machine. Today, I would use it again, and probably well before getting a torrent from the random internet wilds. Granted, if Riot left a torrent link on their site, this would be a lot easier as I could use my own client, but those are locked down just as quick as they're revealed. The problem is the reputation, but that can (take a look a Zynga) be restored over time provided they keep at making a quality product that people don't hate to use.

Again, my preference would be a torrent provided directly from the company that I could leech from my OWN client, but as an alternative, PMB isn't bad, and certainly isn't as malicious as it appeared to be years ago.

RIFT offers cheap client, lots of bonus XP for Christmas

@Omegamaniac So... because Rift gave you the ability to play different archetypes with a single character, somehow has you convinced that you are required to play different archetypes with that single character? Funny thing about choice, it leaves the option in your hands. Pretty sure the game allows more than 4 character slots, so if you REALLY wanted to, you could roll a dozen characters that all play slightly different (even if they share a same base soul).

Perhaps you were implying that you don't like how OTHER people are able to play any archetype on the fly. Maybe you should just worry about yourself. You complaints are easily remedied by simply not doing the things you're complaining about.

@(Unverified) Server population numbers mean very little in my experience with Rift. Playing on a low pop server, the AH is still very active and world events are always populated. There's aren't two dozen people at every quest hub and random obscenities being shouted in global chat channels, but the game still manages to function extremely well as a believable world. I remember being on a full server, it was more of an annoyance than some sort of positive as you're implying. I'll take my vast wide world with a less than robust population. Once you get into a decent guild everyone else is just background noise anyway.

Do you sleep well at night?

I like how incredibly hard it was for Rubi to come out and call Rift a competitor to WoW. She looked like she was going to throw up in her mouth a little.

D'awwwwww

RIFT introduces Ashes of History edition game upgrade [Updated]

Oct 12th 2011 3:32PM (Massively)
I'm throwing money at them for this. Can't help it, that spider is too goddamn awesome and being able to access your bank remotely is making me salivate just thinking about it.

It's not a cash shop until it exists in-game, imo. There's nothing in here that I have to buy on a recurring basis to make my gameplay worthwhile. There's no XP boosters, stat boosters, $$ boosters, etc. I'm not renting my mount/weapon/armor/reproductive organ for X hours. Nothing is popping up in my face telling me to unlock content X, Y, or Z. There's no limited time offers where i can buy 50 woozles for the low price of 45 woozles on login. I don't have to buy cash based resurrection powder to remove some godawful debuff when I repair my soul.

Look, there's things that we high and mighty P2P players look at as MT's or cash shops, and vomit in our mouth a little that people actually support that kind of game by forking over money. What Rift is doing with these little upgrade packs isn't even CLOSE to what we consider problems with the industry.

Nice trolling.

CCP Games CEO issues letter of apology to EVE Online players

I've resubbed. Looking forward to the winter expansion.

This is the letter I think we were all expecting this summer. Better late than never.
