The Daily Grind: How important are achievements to you?

Sep 29th 2010 3:50PM (Massively)
I enjoy them as 'oh hey neat' moments and utterly detest them as an e-peen measurement system.

Need for Speed World goes free-to-play

Color me impressed. I was expecting to give this a shot as a palette cleanser and ended up playing it for hours. I'm not really into racing games but I had a blast.

Totally came out of nowhere for me.

Microsoft requires that XBLA releases have exclusive content. The added XBLA content will probably make its way into the other versions after the 6-12 month exclusivity window expires.

Capcom not planning to launch 3DS games in this fiscal year

MegaMan Legends 3DS. Make is so Inafune.

PS3 firmware 3.41 updated to resolve HDD upgrade issues

I love that my consoles receive updates but I hate that said updates generally appear poorly tested.

Having all of your 'insert precious data here' deleted is heartbreaking.

I know of too many incidents where the end-users simply sold everything related to the product because of a data loss.

It's more than an issue. It can sway a fan of your products and drive away potential new consumers. People don't like losing their stuff.

XBLA Lead and Gold isn't happening, says Paradox CEO

Aug 3rd 2010 1:10PM (Joystiq)
As long as Mr. Wester understands that my enjoyment of Paradox's digital releases goes hand-in-hand with my ability to purchase them through the distribution service of my choice.

If every single publisher/developer plans on having their own service (whatever that entails) then it's going to become very confusing and convoluted very fast and especially if the various publishers/developers are using their own services as the only digital source for their releases.

Paradox Connect as an added bonus sounds wonderful but as any kind of replacement it'll most likely fail miserably in the midst of the big boys.

Analysts predict StarCraft 2 sales in 2010 to be out of this world

Mr. Kotick thanks you for your patronage and is happy to accept your endorsement of his enacted policies and practices.

Now Playing: July 26 - August 1, 2010

Jul 27th 2010 12:03PM (Joystiq)
Just remember that every copy of StarCraft II you buy helps to line Kotick's pockets and fund his policies.

Sad but true.

Video walkthrough: Destination Arcade

Jul 21st 2010 6:11PM (Joystiq)
One of the things that I like to do with all things HD console related is fire them up on a SD set to see if the developer tested anything ever at all with the default composite cables which ship with most 360/PS3 units.

Destination Arcade is one of the most pathetic SD composite experiences I've seen this side of text in a Capcom game.

Why is any of that relevant? The cables are the default ones and Microsoft/Sony are courting casuals and which is the group most likely to not upgrade their cables and/or properly adjust their console's video settings? Casuals.
