The Mog Log: Ishgardbul, not Ala Mhigonople
Apr 1st 2012 10:35AM (Massively)If you think the game today plays the same as it did during open beta, at launch or even plays the same as 6 months ago you're sorely mistaken.
FFXIV might not be a juggernaut of a MMO, but the game has made huge strides to turn itself around. @ 7.99 a month it's worth it.

Mar 18th 2012 11:30AM (Massively)Crafting reforms don't stop at culinary, alchemy or goldsmithing. The entire system had a reform. It's easier overall to control the quality of your craft. And the rewards for attempting high quality really show. Patch 1.20 I would get ~250 exp per synth, now I get ~600+ (1000+ with rested exp)
The jobs bring a more Final Fantasy feel to the game, introduce canonical FF lore, and more streamlined dynamics to "player roles"
I'm looking forward to the implementation of large scale content that can include the whole linkshell in an event. Will probably have to wait for 2.0 but it's very close now, 7-8 months away. Not very long anymore.

Mar 8th 2012 3:25PM (Massively)Soul Crystals are the key items that allow you to take on the "JOB" roles. such as Paladin, Warrior, White mage , Dragoon ect ect. It's like an advanced class system.
In order to obtain a certain Soul Crystal you have to level a combination of classes. i.e. to become a Paladin you need to level Gladiator to 30 and Conjurer to 15.
When you equip a Paladins Soul Crystal you focus your play style to a more "tank" type role. You are restricted to the amount and type of skills you can borrow from other classes, but you unlock "Paladin Only" skills to make up for it.
In the case of Paladin you are given all the Gladiator skills and 5 Pld only skills. However you are only allowed to borrow from Marauder and Conjurer Skill sets (a combo of 5 skills of your choice)
Your "JOB" level (paladin) is based off the "main class" level. again in the case of Pld it is Gladiator. So if you are lv 45 Gladiator and you equip a pld soul crystal you'll be 45 Pld. any exp gained as Pld will be attributed to your Gladiator level. So if you are playing Pld and level from 45 -> 46 and un equip the soul cyrstal you'll be 46 Gladiator, re-equip it you'll be 46 Pld.

Mar 8th 2012 1:44PM (Massively)The JP notes say March 9th which in japan that is today.
But I guess the more people that think tomorrow is the patch the better, less stress on the patch client.

Mar 3rd 2012 7:11PM (Massively)The closest similar system we get is Fields of Valor : Leve Quests.
Yet in the beginning of XIV we were limited to how often we could do these "main content" quests. 8 every 48 hours, which was then expanded to 8 every 36. Now you get 4 every 12 hours and can accumulate missed Leve resets and store up to 99 quests Sure FoV was originally implemented to 1 quest a hour. but that is still more frequent than what XIV offers even today!
But what happened to great systems in XI like Besieged? or Campaign battles? The world of Eorzea is ripe with conflict, the above systems would fit right into XIV, but they are no where to be found.
What about social systems like level sync? If a player is new to XIV, they will more than likely be power leveled from 1-30+ in the matter of several hours to a couple days, and they don't even have to draw a weapon.
At least in XI a high level person was able to play with anyone, not play for them.
I understand and agree that the two game should be just that: two separate games. However I wouldn't mind more XI in my XIV.
With the revamp from XIV ver 1.x to 2.0 they have the opportunity to design engaging and epic events, I just hope they aren't too afraid to look back and find a muse in the successes of FFXI and bring those to the table with a FFXIV flavor.
The Mog Log: Get together
Feb 19th 2012 2:00PM (Massively)While it was very difficult to progress in FFXI w/o a grp it just made the game that much better. That was the game, playing with other people.
Now MMOs are all about getting to max level to start your hunt for the "precious". Forget the journey, just play the end game and complain that there is nothing to do.
In FFXIV I like the fact that you don't need a full 8 member party to progress, that smaller parties are viable even if you choose to solo you can still see some significant progress TNL even in a short playtime. But a part of me misses the loyalty and respect party members gave eachother in FFXI.
Back in the day a single party would stick together for hours just grinding away, if someone had to leave they made every effort to find a replacement. Now people come and go as they please, but I guess thats why they made the journey so easy now, because you just can't count on people devoting time to strangers.
The Daily Grind: Would you fund an MMO via Kickstarter?

Feb 15th 2012 9:12PM (Massively)If you weren't such a retard, I wouldn't have said anything.
You played during OPEN BETA. that was well over a year ago. You know how much has changed in that year? DO you know how much the game has changed in the last 2 moths? How about how much it'll change once this months patch goes live?
So next time you're presented with a question "Is this game worth playing" think about how the context of your experince applies to the question at hand. You played during OPEN BETA., the game NOW is NOTHING like it was THEN.
So you win the asshadouchebagMcgee award, congrats.
