There is, or I guess was, a class specific Warrior quest in WoW that ended in the award of a really nice two handed sword. It took for freaking ever to grind out all the stuff needed to craft it and to kill a really high level mob, but I made a friend along the way and kept that sword for a very long time after earning it!
LOTRO is definitely my favorite. I know it gets a bad rep for its graphics, but I love the landscape vistas. It's the only game I'll regularly take screenshots in. That lifetime VIP would be amazing to have...then again so would the thousand points!
I seriously beg to differ with #5. It may not be as looked down upon as it was, but it's still not "cool". It's still one of those things many people do but don't like to talk about sort of things - internet excepted.
If you're not playing the way hardcore DAoC players tell you to play, then it's scientifically impossible that you could ever have fun in that game, Beau! Get it through your noggin!!
If I had to guess I'd say that by the next expansion they do a complete graphics overhaul. Everyone says they're coming back for Cataclysm, but after that comes and goes what will be their next draw? On a game as old as WoW they could probably up the graphics (without changing the art style) in a couple years and most people would still be able to run it.
