Aug 27th 2010 10:09AM (Joystiq)The Daily Grind: No grind?? No pre-order!!
Aug 27th 2010 9:49AM (Massively)Let's take World of Warcraft, for instance. WoW's "Resting" system grants you double the XP from mob kills if you're rested. You're rested if you've spent some time in a city, or stayed logged off in a city (I'm sure everyone knows this). Once you've run out of rested XP, you're gaining 100% of what you would normally.
In the beta, it was 100% XP for rested, 50% xp otherwise. Players were outraged. So what did the developer do? They made it to the system today... and doubled the amount of XP required to level. That's right, it's the same amount of time to level from 1-80 as it was in the Beta, it just looks positive to the player.
Players don't like penalties. They should have noticed this when developing the fatigue system!

The Daily Grind: Which MMO has the best crafting?
Jul 31st 2010 7:15PM (Massively)What you craft is entirely up to you. You can do small crafting, such as ammunition or smaller frigates, or get into a corporation and do massive production lines, including gigantic capital ships. This helps the crafting system feel real and important versus just side-grades or even entry-level gear for instances to get bigger gear that your crafted stuff just can't hold a candle to.
I'm not simply sticking my fingers in my ears and going 'la la la', I have legitimate reasons for calling EVE online the best crafting system among MMOs. The biggest and most important in my eyes is: Crafting MATTERS in that game.
