@Valentina The population has not been increasing. Every data source we have is showing continued declined. Back in early February Bioware actually lowered the threshold to hit standard/heavy. 1k is the threshold for very heavy last I saw some data(Canderous ordo). To put that in perspective, both WoW and LotR have server caps upwards of 3k. SWTOR servers are small, you could fit a Very heavy server onto a medium population WoW server. So saying there are lots of standard servers is utterly and completely laughable when you realize that 5 of them could be combined to make a medium wow server.
While there might be some people that come back to check out 1.2, it won't be a huge amount. The new legacy system isn't something to hold most casuals as leveling a 2nd+ toon can be painful. The PvP is just terrible so even with ranked warzones that won't change. The new raid will be beat in a week or two. So with all of that you've got maybe another month of subs for most, but that's it.
It doesn't have as many bugs as WAR did, but some of the bugs it does have are game-breakers. There was obviously the dancing bug/exploit but now there is a duping bug that will probably cause either the economy to collapse or a rollback. Then there are things like endgame operations being extremely buggy(Loot doesn't work right, random dying to literally nothing, instance needs reset, Hard/nightmare mode not working right, etc). It just seems like Bioware's programmers left a lot of holes in the code and I would not be surprised if another gamebreaking bug(or three) pops up.
Glad to see Bioware backpedaling, but no grave period was a stupid decision to begin with. Now if only they could go back in time and listen to the testers to create game that won't drop subs like a hot potato after 2-3 months.
Having played SWTOR to 50...he is 100% correct at least in my opinion. You don't see it because you don't get passed the first few planets but it is there. You see the first few planets are class story heavy and the class story is reasonably good, thus the "amazing" reviews by weekend testers. However once you reach later planets(30+) your class story is only 10% of your quests and the rest are all filler quests or the occasionally decent planet story. The filler gets old quickly, most people spacebar through them. That is when the WoW quest grind feeling rears up and bites you in the butt.
If you you're bored of WoW but like the story or bored of WoW and hate the story you still won't be playing this game more than say 3-4 months. The only way I see people making it passed there is if they aren't bored of WoW(themepark MMO's) OR go into fanboy denial where it is the absolute best game ever! Just like Dragon Age 2!
@(Unverified) It doesn't much matter to me but the same people voting me down are the same ones that will be crying about running out of content and when that snowballs into people quitting they will be crying about needing a server transfer.
The fact of the matter is that devs cannot develop content as fast as people consume it, especially in Themeparks and even more so when each class has needs a storyline and VO. Just look at RIFT, as fast as they are adding content they are losing subscribers even faster. The same thing will happen in SWTOR, it will be a fun ride to 50 but it simply doesn't have a system in place to keep people playing. Raiding has lost it's luster and many simply won't chase that carrot anymore.
They are going to need nearly monthly patches to keep people interested if all they have is story and I simply don't see it happening no matter how aggressive they are.
@myhumps Bad company and and a greater extent bad company 2 are next gen. Destructible terrain/buildings is a huge step forward in the FPS genre and there is a reason that all the new FPS engines are putting in destructible terrain. Nothing changes gameplay more than being left out in the open when your cover gets destroyed.
@Kark SWTOR is a 3 month and done MMO. It only has story going for it and once you're done the story it's the same MMO we've been playing for a decade. A lot of MMO fans will no longer pay $15 a month just for raiding or rerolling either. So while the story might be awesome, once they are done with it it they will be quitting instead of starting another endgame loot treadmill.
