@Nautius I don't think "RP" was mentioned at all in the above article at all. The article actually had some good advice. I also met my husband online, and through playing an mmo together, spent time together in that way during the weekdays (while making the several hour trip to visit each other on the weekends). Both of us hate talking on the phone, so the time spent in game together made the distance bearable until we moved in together.
We've now been married four years, purchased a house together, and have a beautiful 12 month old daughter. :) All thanks to the internet and mmos.
That's an awesome quote! It is now written on a post-it note and stuck to my computer monitor next to "You can do it!", "Be awesome." and a reminder not to forget my dentist appointment.
I think you pretty much nailed it. D&D online got 10 minutes out of me until it just felt like nothing new and not worth my time. FFXIV got three hours. I enjoyed the graphics but it still felt like FFXI, including several things that made me leave that game many years ago. I did a free trial of Eve online years ago, but the tutorial was too long and my ADD won out. It seems first impressions are everything when it's so easy to flip the channel.
I very much agree upcoming MMOs need to make sure that first vital 10 minutes is intuitive, fun, and immersive.
I've never played any of the GW games, so I'm not familiar with ArenaNet's practices. I am nosing around the Rift site more, though. Can't wait to see more of the game; guess I'll need to decide where my subscription money/time goes, and if I can manage to drag my husband along with me. XD
This game looks awesome, and they seem to actually have a decent horse animation! O.O I really want to try it out.
I hoping it will be FTP so I can guiltlessly play it while shoving smaller bits of money at them. Sure, it might cost the same each month, but it FEELS cheaper! ;D
"Blizzard is very very flexible in their development and design. What they say no to today, they might say yes to tomorrow."
I will keep this statement close to my heart, in that deep dark secret place where I still have the slightest shred of hope they will eventually make player housing.
