The Mittani gets hit with ban and resigns in wake of EVE Online controversy

Mar 30th 2012 10:26PM (Massively)
@Dunraven

I am glad there are eve players standing up against this, however, I played EVE for for a couple years and can't remember reading that term in chat and after this controversy with the Mittani I decided to do a 14 day trial, party to see if things had really gotten worse, I haven't read that term once.

As someone who has played quite a few MMO's I have seen that people in other games regularly using a three letter word starting with G that they used as an insult or to mean lame.

The fact of the matter is, in EVE once you get in a corp you just look at corp chat. So if you see derogatory language then change corps.

So I do hope they crack down on that term misused to mean trader but I just haven't seen it and I did play for a couple years.

What the Mittani did was wrong and glad he got the ban.

That being said; about EVE and games in general. (Not having to do with the comments of the Mittani) In order to have a hero, you need a bad guy. Bad guys create heroes. (Not the other way around)

In most games, the Devs create the bad guys. They create a Lich King that does horrible acts of violence and killing and you have to join with your friends do defeat him.

In EVE the bad guys are those guilds like the Goons, or the pirates that gate camp you. Or that guy that flips your jet can. Players become bad guys, and other players unite and fight against them.

It is simply a matter of taste. Do you want a bad guy that has been created buy the Devs that you wipe on and die over and over until you finally defeat him. Or do you want bad guys that are players that will kill you over and over until you join up with friends and defeat them.

Sorry for the double post, I did the first one and it didn't show up, so I redid it and then they both showed up.

I played Vanguard briefly, I enjoyed the first few levels.

However, one thing bugs me about the game. When you have to go through a bunch of mobs to get to a certain area, the mobs in the game re-Pop very fast, you attack a mob, move forward, attack the next mob, move forward then you look back and the first mobs you killed have already popped back in.

I really would like to see them slow down the speed in which mobs refresh. It makes the game un-necessarily grindy.

@Skyydragonn

I don't disagree, in fact back when I played the saying was, If you died, it was probably your fault.

To be honest, the 2012 panel was kinda funny. I liked the Alliance (No holds barred, I believe) that made people sing their national anthem as ransom for saving their ships or worm hole.

Maybe some are, but most are angry that they are trying to hurt someone in RL and not in the game.

I like how Open Eve is, it is fun to read about the scams and when I played the game it was fun to get a fleet together because a Red had killed a friendly. Protecting space from a griefer or an enemy fleet added a certain level of excitement.

Trying to get someone to end their life outside the game is criminal in my opinion. Action should be taken.

Eve is a game that has always encouraged Scamming and griefing in game. Basically whatever you can get away with.

However it has always drawn the line at RL. Trying to get someone to to kill themselves in RL goes way beyond the line.

I didn't like that, when you are asked to join a "Secret Society" in "The Secret World" I had to announce it to facebook.

It is a Freakin' Secret Society!
