Nice that they've added it, but... how's this any better than what WoW has? Rift tends to improve things other MMOs have, but this is a bit disappointing =/
I haven't played this one, but I always keep an eye on it in case the pvp scene seems to open up. My understanding is that it's pretty easy to avoid and that you can't take over another town (though you can use deforestation and other environmental warfare methods to make your neighbors want to move).
It's funny because if they spent half the time it took to make the video to do some homework on the game, they would have known what they were expecting. From the start, the emphasis on STORY over game mechanics like free-form flight, housing, a crafting system with some substance, or anything beyond WoW's BG/Raid situation should have told people "This is an RPG with multi-player options."
When asked about end game, all the Bioware folks said, "We have raiding or you can make an alt and play again." This part said, "It becomes an MMO like WoW once you hit the level cap."
Sorry, I have no sympathy for people who play(ed) TOR and were surprised that it had a lot of RPG cut scenes and a WoW end game. Do a little reading instead of giving into hype you probably don't understand. I love TOR, but as a multi-player RPG, not an MMO.
I think most of the downrating is because the comment's pretty inflammatory and uses hyperbole. It does make a point that WoW's PvP really could use some help. Despite what some folks have said, I find that I vastly prefer SWTOR's PvP to WoW's (this coming from a max level tank in PvP, not one of the more broken dps classes). Simple things like allowing tanks to taunt in pvp (beyond making a pet attack you for a few moments) would help, and making world pvp worthwhile would be awesome.
That aside, I think WoW does need more "mini-games," though I'm not a huge fan of putting in "pokemon" (between expansions, alts, and having to level characters on other server/factions to play with friends, I think I have enough leveling already). The farming suggestion sounds fun to me! It could go with a crafting revamp to incorporate mini-games into crafting, similar to the cooking skill in Monster Hunter Tri: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzeaOY4CTME&feature=related
OOPS! I forgot to important one really important fact: we have NEVER spam general chat/trade/etc for recruitment, not in WoW, Rift, TOR, or TERA. All recruitment is through forums, personal contacts, PMs, hosting events, etc.
Guild Name: The Earthbound Server: Dragonmaw Faction: Mainly Horde (we have an alliance guild for some cross-faction world pvp) Guild Website: earthbound.guildportal.com Recruiting: Alt raiders (tanks, heals, and dps) and people who want to do more than the simply raid/RBG/arena and log About: We started as a world pvp guild and have grown tremendously from that. We've held multi-guild coordinated, cross-faction world pvp events for over a year and would like to help our server (Dragonmaw) keep it's world pvp heritage. We're not only looking for guild mates, but groups of friends/guilds that want to be on a server that promotes World PvP.
We've brought this attitude out of WoW and into other games as well, but our structure (the "socialization" section on the guild site) has helped us keep stability in WoW, making it so that people can actually play other games with guildies but still come back to WoW. Not only does this allow our members to try other games, but has helped us bring people from new games back to WoW if they find that the newest MMO wasn't what they were looking for.
For MoP, our members have expressed an interest in returning to our "fun" nature with events other than raiding and RBGs. These are fun, but there are other ways of playing WoW as we've proven before. Sadly, many of these players end up going to other games. If you/your friends/your guild feel like they'd like to do old content, newbie races, in-game costume contests, etc, drop by our guild site or Mumble server and we'll see if we can work something out. ***Officer+ Positions available to those looking to earn it***
This. I hear people say the same thing about Darkfall having a PvE server but... what would you do? Loot isn't that hard to get. Towns aren't that customizable. Killing dragons is fun the first few times, but the biggest rush after awhile is when someone tries to kill you while you're PvEing. Ships are fun, but they're for PvP mainly. If you want a sandbox, Istaria (formerly Horizons) is still around, and that has better customization, more races, superior crafting, housing, and the dragon race that can fly and age (a little). And hey, guess what? No pvp.

Does WoW need more minigames?

The Daily Grind: What game would you play if it had an alternate gameplay server?
