As a raid and guild leader of over at Wyrmrest Accord, Alliance side, I think it bears emphasizing that the GLBTQI extends beyond Proudmoore. There are positive, welcoming spaces out there. They can be hard to find, though the gems are there!
You shouldn't have to pack up and leave, though I know that sometimes that can be for the best especially if the current environment is having a direct impact on your play and enjoyment.
Congratulations on being open and proud. Best of luck in your future endeavors. Don't give up and find a practical solution which works for you! Pop over to Wyrmrest Accord and say hi, stop by Proudmoore and check out the communities that have been created there, or the many other supportive and open guilds and spaces that are there. You don't need to settle for discrimination and hatred.
Thank you so much for your contributions to this issue. I'm currently in a B.Ed program training to become a secondary teacher. We've recently touched on this issue in some of our classes.
One thing that might be helpful to consider and that was brought up in discussion, was that the language used around 'disorders' can sometimes be unhelpful. Sometimes people feel as if they're stuck within a disorder and that this language can prevent people from taking those first integral mental steps towards getting help. Often, this sort of language is best left to professional clinicians who are trained in diagnosis and treatment of these disorders.
It's incredibly important not to shrug off or ignore individuals making this cry for help. It's equally important to consider the effects of the things we may say to these people. Make sure they know that there is help, make sure that they know they are not 'stuck' in whatever their current state is, and make sure that, before you have that conversation, you consider how the language you're using may impact the individual.
Once again, thank you for touching on this subject. You guys do great work.
As a teacher and hopefully future parent, I thought this was a fantastic article. I'll be sharing this with my guild. There's a lot to be learned from the subtle influences we have on our children and the teaching points we can make in their interests, regardless of what they might be.
I think the main problem here is that WoWInsider is basically supporting plagiarism. That's not incredibly cool, in my opinion, and violates a lot of cred that the site has.
