Oct 14th 2010 9:36AM (TUAW.com)I'm really surprised that Apple didn't move the needle more in iBooks. At launch everyone thought that the ipad would be a Kindle killer, and while it did depress hardware sales, the Kindle software itself is stronger than ever. You can buy a book from Amazon and read it on any device, or buy it on iBooks and read it on your iPad or iPhone. Granted it's an epub from iBooks, but it's not a DRM free epub that you can load up on a Nook or anything.
Amazon has shown they really get the software sales side of the business. I wish they had a more open file format for their books, but if I'm going to buy a book I buy it from Amazon.
Also check out Calibre if you're looking to convert ebook formats. You can covert epub to mobi to load on a Kindle, or any document format to any ebook format.

Finally you can't read the whole articles anyway, it only shows an excerpt. You can click to make it larger, but the article caps at a certain word count and it has a button to read the full article on the web. That's where you lose the elegance. Nice animations, flips and zooms, but as soon as you want to read paragraph 3 you have to click out to read the full article on the web page.
If you could merge this with the Reeder app I think you'd have something.

Dec 2nd 2009 7:06PM (Engadget HD)For TV with interlacing, I usually rip with the high profile preset in Handbrake, and turn on "Slow" deinterlacing. Make a nice .mp4 or .mkv container out of it and it's gorgeous.
