Community backlash leads to Global Agenda review score being pulled

Feb 19th 2010 3:51AM (Massively)
I'm honestly pretty shocked by the hatred some players show towards this game. It's always the same thing too, people complaining that it's not an MMO. There are actually threads on the GA forums from angry players who couldn't believe that they purchased the game and there are no wizards handing out quests to go kill 20 rats in the sewers and come back to receive a health potion and the next quest. Is this just the generation of WoW players that instantly equates "MMO" with grind a lot of quests in an open world?

I mean there is some truth to it, it's obvious that the aspects that were meant to bring players together in this game weren't fully developed, it's definitely something that was likely pushed to the backburner during development while things like game balance, character progression and gameplay were emphasized, imagine that. "MMOFPS" may of been a bit of a misnomer to coin for the game, perhaps RPGFPS would be more accurate at the moment, but if you've read the recent announcements by the developers, they very soon plan to implement open world areas where you can leave the current station and try to attain resources, and get PK'd in the process. The MMO aspect is definitely being developed still.

But ignore the MMO in the title, hell, completely ignore the Agency vs Agency content that is pay per month, it's not even needed. I've participated in some AvA, it's certainly not worth a monthly fee (which they aren't charging yet.) But there is PLENTY of content in just the PvE and PvP matches. People still play TF2 for countless hours to this day, TF2 a game with such high ratings. GA has everything that TF2 has, adds Agencies, Alliances, PvE content, weapon load-outs, Skill tree's, Player hub, dyes, gear upgrades, and more.

Is the game perfect? No. Was it rushed out the door? Most likely, but they are working hard to meet player demands at the moment. The game doesn't deserve such a low score as a 5.5, or any of the rage from people who never bothered to read what the game was about before purchasing it.

Bottom line as far as I'm concerned. I've NEVER played an FPS game for more than 10 hours without getting bored, until Global Agenda. I've logged 40+ hours on the game so far, and I'm starting to build up my next character, and loving every minute. There are flaws, but the fun times far out-weigh those. Once the next patch goes in, it's going to be a very solid, and enjoyable game, with room to grow.

Global Agenda extends free time from launch, commits to new features in coming months

I don't understand the criticizing posts in this thread, judging by other threads I've seen on the GA boards as well, I think a lot of players were under the false impression that this was going to be a traditional MMO where you would mindlessly run quests, and visit fantasy realms, and quest for glory, yadda, yadda. They must of put out this impression at some point, but I don't think the fact that it's not an MMO is a bad thing at all.

What the game is currently is TF2 with more depth to it. Now TF2 is largely regarded as one of the best PvP FPS games out there, I still know dozens of people out there that play TF2 every day. Global Agenda is TF2, but with classes that have multiple weapons, jetpacks, skill builds, Agency's, customization, dye's, PvE missions, etc. So the conquest mode was tacked on, they are still developing it. Doesn't mean the what the game is currently still isn't something that's a lot of fun.

Global Agenda extends free time from launch, commits to new features in coming months

This is awesome news, I'm glad they are really listening to the community as they've been posting polls to see what the player base wants the most. There is some definitely undue harsh criticism in this thread. The game is DEFINITELY worth the price of admission, this game basically takes everything that makes TF2 great, and builds upon it with RPG elements, leveling your character, customizing his/her gear, adjustable builds for different roles, weapon load-outs. It has quite a bit of depth in that area for a straight online FPS game. This is coming from someone who regularly gets bored of FPS games after a few days, Global Agenda is the only one that has kept my attention, I can't get enough.

Now all of that praise out of the way, other than the main 10vs10 PvP and 4 man Co-Op PvE missions, which you get just for buying the game, the additional features definitely have been lacking. Asking for 13 bucks a month is laughable. The Conquest mode is barely more than an added distraction. It's nice, it brings more urgency to the matches, and a sense of worth for the Agency, but other than that it's just another 10vs10 match. I'm glad to hear that they are improving on the few lacking things, picking your PvP matches, Crafting that doesn't destroy itself, and increased Conquest mode maps/game types. These will all add to the game quite a bit.

Honestly, even with those additions, the pay per month model will still likely have to come down in price some, and will still need much more content to be worth a sub, but regardless I see myself playing this game for quite some time to come.

Age of Conan releases 1.06 patch notes

The game actually seems pretty smooth now, certainly compared to launch. I recently started playing again, and there are no server issues or lag that I experienced, and all the odd buggy things were fixed. People playing seem to be legitimately enjoying themselves.

I really would like to see AoC succeed. Going back to it after almost 2 years from it's launch, it's still the best looking and sounding MMO out there by a long shot. With DX10 and all the amazing goodies like 3d rendered grass, and god-rays, and particle effects, and dynamic shadows... I mean it puts Dragon Age Origins to shame, that's pretty impressive. In my opinion, the combat system is one of the best as well, and there are a lot of original, and well designed classes.

It's a shame they had such a rocky start and so many people left, and won't return.

Fallen Earth's State of the Game: Upcoming additions and more

Hah, didn't mean to offend anyone stating a lack of endgame, I'm not looking for raiding, or instance grinds or any of that, I far prefer the sandbox atmosphere. What I do enjoy though is PvP. I love group PvP, Open World PvP with goals, Duals, Instanced, etc. All of it. From everything I'd heard, PvP had taken a back seat for Fallen Earth. So that's why I'm looking forward to when it's introduced in patch 1.5.

Nice, patch 1.5 sounds like enough to make me revisit the game. I liked what I had played so far, but with no real PvP or End Game, I couldn't really force myself to work through the MMO level-grind.

Star Trek Online character customization in pictures

Another thing that sort of bugged me about this system... who would ever want to play a preset race when there is so much you can do with your create your own alien? It's great in a way, but I'm not even a big Star Trek fan by any means, but it kind of pulled me out of the Star Trek universe when you don't recognize a single race in the game. Absolutely no one that I saw was even playing a human, when in the shows the Federation is probably about 80-90% Humans. This bugged me in the space station especially when almost all the NPC's are random looking aliens, as well as the players. As well as everyone having completely different looking uniforms.

As much as I am a huge fan of making my own creatures and spending hours sitting there tweaking every setting... I almost feel like I would of rather the game restricted you to like 8 different races that you could tweak to your liking. I think the game would of felt more like Star Trek than some fantasy land.

Even the Klingons... I was overjoyed when I saw an officer with Race: Klingon to pick as my tactical officer, and then I get him and he looks like a member of the blue man group. wth?

The Character creator was definitely pretty cool, I unfortunately couldn't play with it too much when I was making my character because I was racing the clock since the login server was resetting every 5 minutes.

I have to say though, it was odd that I'd be completely blown away by how customized the scaring could be, how you could move it all around the face and resize it, and at the same time completely let down that there isn't a single slider to adjust ears or horns. I really just wanted to shrink the size of one of the ears, and alter a pair of horns somewhat, and ended up just omitting them because I couldn't get them to look the way I wanted them to.

Shrines of Bori to offer Age of Conan players more outdoor PvP pt. 2

Hah, I had forgotten about the atrocious looking armor. It was pretty underwhelming to play this gorgeous game for 50+ levels and you're armor never changes from being a brown sack. But I can overlook armor graphics myself, I'm sure at this point the armor must be looking better in the end game, and have some variety, I'd hope. What really turned me off from the game was that I ran out of finished areas to level in at the 45-50 level range, and I was playing on a PvP server when there was no PvP system in place. I'd like to give it a shot if those were rectified. I always wanted to at least see a Siege battle for myself.
