Free for All: How much content does 25 dollars buy?

May 26th 2010 2:10AM (Massively)
@carson

You're right that the subscriptions should have risen already. It's WoW that's holding everybody else back. They're game has got them so much money and it's engine is so old that compared to new releases running there servers costs a dime. Yet they pull a cash store to keep their subscriptions low.

If this continues cash stores will be a norm in almost every MMO. This is a thought I'm not comfortable with. If you think further, you realise companies want to make their cash shop items more lucrative every time. Continue that circle and we Will have more than cosmetic items as a norm in cash shop, subscription or not.

The Anvil of Crom: Offline leveling? It's about bloody time

Why is raiding grinding?
Because there is the tedious repetition of gear grind for "progress". It's game companies way to pay you more. The gear grind is a time sink. Remove it, and you're left with fun game play of defeating bosses with group of people..

Those PvP games that do have grind, guess what.. it's the huge differences the gear brings again. Remove it or at least downgrade it like some games do and.. ..Hey we have a fun game again.

What people want to get rid of are the time sinks, repetition. If so many people really, really think Grind is the game, then I dont wonder anymore why this genre isnt moving forward...

Blizzard CEO calls shipping an unfinished product, 'devastating'

What a surprise that Blizzard makes a comment like that near another MMO release.. again...;)

Yes, yes.. the game is polished. We get that... but it was Olde years ago. It's also funny that people who say that they always make "polished" games, admit almost on the same sentance that they had trouble in WoW launch. So which is it?

They are in a position to shoot cheapshots from their mouths, and my god do they do it every time there is something new on the horizon...

I used to be a fan of Blizzard, but I'm getting sick of their smugness while they milk their cow (of the Lich King).

Anti-Aliased: Boobs and you pt. 2

Those were huge generalisation I agree. Those people that care what kind of character other people play say those things. I find it funny that they both see the "other kind" of players "gay"...

I have to admit that apart from Witch Elf in war, I've never played women chars, but I couldn't care less how some other player wants to play his game.

Anti-Aliased: Boobs and you pt. 2

I think there are two kind of people when it comes to character choice. There are the "rpg-players" and the "fps-players".

The fps-player does not "get in to the character". They see it as a tool that they use to play the game, and they prefer to look at women than men.

The rpg-player feels that in someway they are the character, or part of it at least. They connect with it. rpg-player prefers their own gender, as imagining yourself to be another gender is much more difficult (and weird).

These two player groups don't usually understand each other well.

From fps-player pov; Rpg-player is gay, because they want to look at char of their own gender. But actually they arent looking a char of their own gender. They are looking a representation (avatar) of themselves.
From rpg-player pov; Fps-player is gay, because they want imagine themselves as a char of opposite gender. But they arent imagining at all. They see only what is on the screen, and they want to see something good looking of opposite sex rather than their own.

The Daily Grind: Is Warhammer Online doomed?

I just decided to try the trial. A little taste of nostalgy, if you will... I like the game.

Unfortunately the EU side is still run by the same ***tty GOA page. From the open beta fiasco to this day, the page is still the same and the account problems are exactly the same. I'm usually a patient man...

I just needed to vent this somewhere...

Phew.. thank you. I guess I'll try again.. Oh, this does bring memories back! Just like I wanted to... Gotta love GOA...

Details on WAR's new user journey and apprentice system

Where did the notes say about closing RvR lakes in t1 (except C/E)? Because that would be quite boring. The lake isnt that big. Although you wont spend very long time in t1, I'd find it quite dull that there would be no other rvr lakes...

Warhammer Online's target audience (part 3)

Jul 2nd 2009 2:27AM (Massively)
You are right the lore and the pictures are usually very gothic. On the other hand the miniatures themselves, some novels, some specialist games etc. are very comic.

So even Games Workshop tries to appeal a wider audience with different aspects. The models of the game are pretty much taken straight from the TT.

First legitimate city capture in Warhammer Online

Apr 7th 2009 3:08AM (Massively)
Congratulations are in order, not this unbelievable arguing. There is no question that what the guys (& gals?) did, is a huge accomplishment.

The 14h maraton included many wipes, the fight does not take 14 hours. I don't know how many times the guild have had the city contested and pounded on the emperor, but for me 14 hours on a boss sounds much only when you think that it was done in a marathon. I can't even count how many hours I've spent with some bosses in WoW in 4-6h intervals. Since they had 24 hours time to be in the city (so I've understood), clearly this 14h marathon was something they chose to do. And why not? The world first kill is at stake.

Also about the video: it shows only the last (4th) stage of the fight, where sadly the boss is tauntable and makes fight look a lot less epic, I agree. I hope they change emperor to be untauntable the whole fight. Gladly the new token system will help people be more prepared for this fight. I believe they had only one tank with full set of wards.
Here's the stages as I've understood them (for those who read this far and are interested):
You start fighting with emperor, then its griffon mount swoops in and takes them in to balcony where you first fight to dismount the emperor, then fight them both and finally enter this last stage which is on video.

Massively re-arms for WAR: State of the opinion address

That depends a lot from what direction you look at GW stuff.
You look at the miniatures and you see a very comic look. Gear and weapons are large, so you can easily see them when you look at a miniature from distance. The colours in most photos of miniatures are also comic. They want to people use lots of color. Colorful means more paint, and have you seen the prices of their paints..;) Also colourfull is easier to paint good than black/dark/"grim".
You look at the drawings and you have a very grim and dark look. Some of the pictures are almost disturbing, specially considering that GW target kids as customers also.

So even Games Workshop has this everything for everyone setting a bit and why wouldnt they.. its business..
