If they make sector space function more like EVE, and incorporate exploration and random encounters with that type of open travel, then they'd be onto something. I don't know if that engine can handle that kind of openness, though.
It's been said over and over again that you can maitain whatever look you want thoughout the game. You want your character to only look like they're wearing spandex at all levels, you can.
Eve online. I've been lured several times by it's amazing graphics, only to cancel after an hour or two of playing. I really want to like this game, but it's nothing more than a gorgeous spreadsheet to me.
Fallen Earth is another one. Not lured in for the graphics (they're pretty poor), but for the post apocalyptic setting. The controls are not well done and the atmosphere kind of misses the mark for me. Disappointing.
Champions Online. Talk about a missed opportunity. Pretty much an example of how NOT to make a super hero MMO.
I logged on this past weekend (no, not a lifer, just ponied up the $15 for 1 month) to check out the "changes," and found the game just as boring as it ever was. I honestly couldn't see anything different. This game is deader than GW's political career.
I'm not seeing anything impressive or interesting enough from these upcoming releases to bring me back to STO. I came back during the veterans' Welcome Back weekend, fired up my rear admiral, and found nothing new except for stuff in the Cryptic Store. STO was fun for the first included month and maybe a week or two afterwords, but the lack varying and high end content guarantees most people won't stick with it. Maybe if Cryptic concentrated on creating content that wasn't exclusive to their damn store and pumped out actual game content, they may have a chance at getting some of us back. *shrug*
I hear the ticking of the end for WAR. This is just bad mojo, imo. I give it about 12-18 more months before EA pulls the plug on this one. Shame, too, since DAoC was so good in its day.
