Officers' Quarters: Casual raiding 2009

Ultimately, the question that the OP and his guildies have to answer is, 'Why should I join your guild?"

I don't mean that in a negative way. But, if you asked me to join, and I asked "Why should I join your guild?", what would your reply be?

If you understand what your reply is, and understand why it separates you from some of the other guilds on your server, then you will have better success.

In the mean time, PUG 10 mans (that you are ready for), as well as 5 mans. Look for people who are running, but are unguilded. Look for people that might fit your system and add them to your friends list. A guild works best when it is a group of people who are friends and play together well. Playing with people, repeatedly, and talking to them in /channels or /chat to make friends, is the easiest way. Nevertheless, it's not easy.

Remember too, most guilds fail. That is harsh. I absolutely do not mean to be critical. Still, would it work better if your group of friends found another, larger, guild, that work well with you, and are also friendly and casual?

In my guild, we have absorbed several small guilds that were in your situation. The members from those closing guilds still get to play together, but they have a much larger pool of people that they know to fill out their raids and events.

Good luck!

BlizzCon 2010: Las Vegas Convention Center retracts statements

Nov 13th 2009 4:42PM (WoW)
I have not gone to BlizzCon previously because:
#1 - tickets were limited and difficult to get
#2 - Anaheim - meh. Pretty limited hotel space, etc etc.

I am not a huge fan of LV, but there are plenty of hotels to choose from, lots of restaurants, a million flights a day, etc. Also, if I go to BlizzCon, the missus would have stuff to do. Since we could go together, it is far more likely to happen. For her, Anaheim has no more appealing than Omaha (no offense to either Anaheim or Omaha). LV is basically a professional convention center for giant conventions. They generally do a great job at it. If BlizzCon is there, the chances of my getting there are MUCH higher.

Breakfast Topic: The gap

A new gulidie of mine just dinged 80 on his DK, it was his first 80. He's clearly still learning about the game, its mechanics, etc. Anyway, I have 4 80s, and he doesn't know that they are all me (despite my Guild Note being totally clear about it). Even my newest 80 out plays him, despite lesser gear - simply because of experience. He will get better at his class, I've no doubt. He's also a really nice guy and is very welcome in our guild. Still, I have a really good idea where my 4 toons' level is (25 ToC, 25 Uld, 10 Uld, 10 Naxx), but newer players typically do not realize that they need gear, skill and experience for every level of play, but that the depends for G/S/E increases with content.

There are so many really decent, well polished, highly populated games on the market at the moment. The biggest issue is that most of them are pretty old, and therefore boring.

Still, I would usually rather play a well polished, older game, than a frustratingly buggy, unbalanced, NEW game.

I know that developers are tied to their marketing and release dates, but sheesh - I would rather wait 6 months and get a better game at launch!

SWTOR's Sith Warrior detailed, cataloged

Sep 1st 2009 3:01PM (Massively)
Well - my fear about this game is that it will be ALL style and story and not much gameplay. Class balance is essential in MMORPG. Nothing is more boring than looking for a group and discovering that 80% of the people all rolled the overpowered class. In every new launch, balance needs refining, but I am afraid that, as in nearly all Star Wars games before it, there is one or two classes that are so OP that there is no reason (other than style or story) to play the others.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good story. If that's ALL i wanted, though, I would just read the books or see the movies.

pffft, easy!

Just because nobody else has done it, everybody thinks it's hard. Or, y'know, it IS hard. Maybe I'll get to see this boss in a year or so . . .

Breakfast Topic: What do you think of the new bear druid skins?

Jun 2nd 2009 8:14AM (WoW)
The fur skin is tied to skin color right? They should let you alter it in the barbershop.
