Mythic responds to negative Land of the Dead community poll

Jul 30th 2009 5:35PM (Massively)
Honestly, Mythic's mistake was releasing the game with too many servers and two classes completely missing from the game. Nevermind that they only put in the dark elf tank later also.... the Blackguard. It's mainly been a push something out fast to try and get customers or keep them. I wouldn't go so far as saying WotLK had any impact on WAR, WAR killed itself by coming out early, and not polished. Also, there were significant flaws in the XP curve of the game. There weren't enough rewards for completing Public Quests. There weren't many class imbalances, but there needed to be some tweaking. I played it the first few months but stopped since I had no interest in continuing to play mmo's that can't deliver. Even WoW isn't delivering, the game is old, and the only reason anybody still plays it is because there isn't much else, or better yet, they're just hardcore WoWfanboi's. The game hasn't much improved, especially given the amount of money that people are paying on a monthly basis for it. Blizzard and it's parent company are just rolling in profits. I sort of gave up on that game when they decided to just give Horde paladins instead of fixing Shamans or actually fixing anything, since the game is mainly PVE, with garbage PvP built in.

China investigating potential World of Warcraft upset, may ban game

This is good news for anyone who can't stand WoW or hearing about WoW at all. Its just ironic that it's not going to be another mmo that kills WoW, but rather some bureaucratic agency in its largest market. Regardless, the game is getting old and will tire, just like every other one before it. I quit after 4 years of that grind of incredibly lackluster content and shitty pvp.

Anti-Aliased: From Captain America to the whirling dervish, dual-specs discussed pt. 2

Apr 9th 2009 10:54AM (Massively)
Great read. I definitely agree on some problems that dual-spec will resolve and introduce. There is a definite lack of specialization to the game now. Essentially, why bother even having more than a certain number of people in a guild. You can run any instance with a dedicated set of players since they can just switch role when needed. Blizzard likes to make things easy now, instead of hard. The game used to be pretty challenging, but it has just been downhill for about two years now. Every little tweak just made the game less balanced and less fun to play.

Jeff Kaplan leaving World of Warcraft for next-gen Blizzard MMO

Feb 13th 2009 8:31AM (Massively)
Good EFF'ing riddance. No joke, he's one of many reasons why I no longer play WoW. I played it, it was fun in its vanilla form, then the expansions came along and it only got worse than better. They are pressured into releasing expansions every two years now, so the quality of the product isn't nearly up to Blizzard standards that set as precedent. The expansions have sucked, TBC was worthless, a stop gap expansion, and WotLK is like... EASY MODE on. They introduced Death Knights and pretty much everyone is playing them because they were designed to be fun, unlike the other classes.

Again, good riddance to 'Mr. Everquest Was the greatest MMO designed ever!'.

I hope WAR pumps out more and better content. It did right off the bat, but screwed up by having too many servers at launch. Soon enough it'll maintain a better player base than the sheep filled throng of WoW fanboi's.

The Daily Grind: PvP or PvE?

Jan 25th 2009 1:20AM (Massively)
I'd say... I also follow the 80% PvP, Open RvR, World PvP rule... and then the 20% PvE. The thing is, the only game that nearly addresses my needs has been WAR. But even then, due to time constraints, I no longer actively play an MMO. After several MMO's, I've sort of taken a break.

I had my fun, but when the level cap gets increased in WoW, and it's the same crap over again, one begs to question what the point of playing really is. WoW is AIDS. It's a plague on the MMO market as it does nothing but expect you to grind. Even the difficult content, which recently is simply a revamp of old content(IE: Naxx.) is a lot simpler than before and has become sort of a joke. There's barely any guilds which haven't cleared all the PvE content. That's Blizzard's new strategy... make everything easy, so you can feel more satisfied with your epics. Been there, done that, and the worst part is that the PvP in WoW went from good(lvl60), to bad(lvl70+arena+resilFAILUREience), to awful(lvl80 omfg dead instantly).

Meanwhile WAR's PvE content is sort of lackluster, as someone posted earlier, Mythic has never been very good at implementing PvE content, but the PvP content blows most games out of the water as there is definitively changes in zone control etc.

So yeah, PvE is terrible. Repeatable content is a grind. Winning Influence/Renown was a lot of fun. Taking your first keep in WAR felt a crapload better than ever winning any battle in WoW. Again, WoW is AIDS. It's a plague, spread by WoW Fanboi's who haven't even played an MMO before WoW.

My 2 cents. Enjoy. PvP/RvR ftw.
