little orientation info for anyone interested in playing. choose your server based on what you want, higher average maturity level among players or free. if you want the higher maturity players try a server like Midnight. it is a "subscription" server but you can still do stuff as a free player. if you want to do everything for "free" (time investment still required) try a doubloon server like Viridian or Sage. be warned the community is of lower quality on the doubloon servers than the subscription servers.
some mmos do have a story already, like lotro for example. but most players just zerg rush through it. i think bioware is trying to use their single player RPG model for an mmo, and i don't think there is enough crossover there for it to work. single player rpg gamers aren't used to paying for a sub for an extended period of time, and a large percentage of mmo players don't care about story. and if they don't care about story then swtor has nothing that really makes itself stand out from the rest in a crowded market.
"Could we have spent all of our time on trying to reinvent system X or system Y? Sure, we could, but BioWare's strength and Lucasfilm's strength is in story and in storytelling, and that is what they chose to emphasize and bring to the MMO genre. I think that was a smart choice."
Are people willing to pay a subscription for a story though? Thats the big question, and its a gamble in the mmo market. And yes they probably need that fat subscription money to break even on their development budget.
so is it possible to craft the tier 6 hybrid pipeweeds without begging for old toby seeds? that was probably the lamest part of farming, can't grow a crop (that was already labor intensive) because the the tier 1 seeds are drop only and noone bothers to try to sell them.
